Yesterday most of the @RAMSHollistonPS sixth graders visited the library for the first time (what a year it has been!) and collectively borrowed over 150 books for the summer. Loved to meet them and feed off their excitement!
Make sure school schedules have enough time for daily independent reading of self-selected books.
40-45 minute classes need to adjust to more time. Don’t use a 19th-20th century schedule in 21st century!
Today there was a class in the library. Some students also came in to check out books. I met with a student to help her start her own library website. Lots of kids had lunch in the library. Today felt almost normal. I never knew I loved normal so much. 💖
On this National Librarian Day I applaud all librarians across the country. Your work is invaluable to your community and the nation. Today, a librarian’s role is constantly evolving to adapt to social needs and a new digital landscape. We can’t thank you enough.
We had Ss in the library for the FIRST TIME ALL YEAR today for in person checkouts. A student I have never met before came in and we talked about BOOKS as she marveled at the collection! As she was leaving she said, "I like you...and I LOVE this library." Y'all...best day EVER!
Wrapping up National Library Week by delivering some cupcakes to our White House librarians.
Libraries have gone above and beyond this pandemic to adapt to our changing world and serve our community. Whether you’re visiting in person or virtually, thank a librarian today.
As a kid, I escaped to Narnia via his books. Now I live/write in the city where he was born, and I'm so honoured to receive the 1st C.S. Lewis Writer's Bursary, celebrating his legacy! A big (belated) thank you to @EastSideArtsBel @ArtsCouncilNI for supporting my current project!
