💡It is not often that decades of discovery distill into a single, riveting hour. That was certainly the case yesterday (26 March 2026) at the Faculty Hall, @iiscbangalore
🧬In collaboration with the Division of Biological Sciences, we organised a distinguished lecture by Prof. Charles Cantor (Professor Emeritus of Biomedical Engineering, Boston University @BU_Tweets ; co-founder of the Human Genome Project; co-developer of pulsed-field gel electrophoresis).
🧠His talk, "Is deuterium the key to controlling age-related loss of #brain function?", shed light on how deuterated analogs of dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) could mitigate oxidative damage in neural membranes, potentially slowing the progression of #neurodegenerative diseases.
🙌The audience's enthusiasm was a reflection of the stature of the speaker and his thought-provoking ideas.
🤝Earlier in the day, we had the privilege of hosting Prof. Cantor at our Centre. He engaged with earnest curiosity as our team walked him through CBR's mission, #genomics initiatives, and other ongoing research efforts. He also shared wisdom drawn from an illustrious career that spans academia, landmark textbooks, and transformative biotech ventures. The interaction left the team highly energised and inspired!
🙏Many thanks to Prof. Utpal Tatu (Chair, Department of Biochemistry, IISc) for anchoring the lecture and to Prof. @vijaychandru (Visiting Scientist, @CBR_IISc) for kindly facilitating the visit.

India is seeing a worrying rise in #diabetes & metabolic disease. Southern states have higher diabetes rates while others have high #prediabetes. Risk factors are unhealthy diets & lack of physical activity. Changes in #PDS with more dal & protein can help slow this trend
🎊 We are truly excited to have formalised a synergistic partnership with the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF) and the @UKDRI.
🧠 We look forward to contributing to the elucidation of links between #metabolic disorders and #cognitive health, and their implications for #neurodegenerative diseases. This collaboration further strengthens our resolve to promote healthy #brain #aging through impactful, evidence-based #research.

🥁 We are excited to announce the launch of the ✨CBR-UK DRI Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme✨ - a unique initiative to expand research capacity in #dementia and #brain health.
This programme builds on our landmark partnership initiated with the @UKDRI earlier this year.
“The CBR-UK DRI Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme embodies our commitment to collaboration and capacity-building in aging brain research. We hope that the Fellows will serve as champions of the shared vision of CBR and UK DRI. We also look forward to its contribution to advancing discovery, strengthening international partnerships, and nurturing the next generation of research leaders.” - Prof. @kvshari, Director, CBR.
📑 Applications are now being accepted on a rolling basis!

🎂CBR turned 11 today, and the celebration was made special by the gracious presence of Dr @kris_sg.
As we wrap up a memorable first decade and take our first steps into ✨ Decade Two✨ we remain grateful for the Pratiksha Trust’s continued generous support – the wind beneath our wings.
🧠👁️We were honoured to have Prof. @sparuniisc, Chair – Centre for Neuroscience, @iiscbangalore, deliver the 'CBR Day' lecture. His talk, titled 'Neural basis of real-world vision', offered insights from his lab’s work exploring how the #brain solves #vision by studying perception in humans, neural activity in monkeys, and comparisons between brains and machine #algorithms.
🎊 A highlight of the event was recognising long-serving members of the CBR family and thanking them for their invaluable contributions. Their skillsets, passion, and loyalty to the Centre’s mission are among our greatest strengths.
🎨 We also organised, for the first time, a painting challenge (themed ‘Mindscapes – Painting the World Inside’) to explore and celebrate the artistic side of our team. It was a joy to see colleagues swap their daily tools (stethoscopes, pipettes, keyboards) for a paintbrush and share their creativity through a variety of thoughtful artworks.
🔆This anniversary was not just a celebration of the past year, but an opportunity to reflect on the lessons learned and step into CBR's Decade Two with renewed commitment to progressing towards our shared goals.
Here’s to many more milestones together!
🎇What an energising and inspiring week it has been at #AAIC2025@alzassociation!
🧠We have truly enjoyed sharing our work on the #aging#brain and age-related brain disorders, and introducing our new #Biomarker Centre of Excellence to so many curious and enthusiastic attendees. We are grateful for the warm interest and insightful exchanges.
Special thanks to @UKDRI and Gates Ventures for their continued support and partnership.
🤝Today (30 July 2025) marks the final day to catch us at the Exhibit Hall (booth #1638)! We look forward to keeping the conversations going and exploring opportunities to collaborate.
