Anecdote: A very senior politician who also held an important position in the Punjab Govt at the time would make frequent visits to Canada to meet one of his family members. Once when he was there, Khayalistanis called for his gherao and teach him a lesson on a desi radio. As head of our Consulate at the time, I immediately contacted his family member and went to meet him where he was. After assuring him assistance, I contacted the police there only to be advised to inform them when someone tries to harm him!! Neither did the police take any action against the person who threatened him. Later, somehow I saw him off at the airport to ensure his safe return to India. Point is despite danger to his life, the police there refused to take appropriate security measures for him. OTOH when some Indo-Canadian politician visits India, we go out of way to provide them elaborate security for no valid reason. I feel this should strictly be on reciprocal basis and there’s no need to go out of our way on the issue.

ISRO is not being privatised. Nor is DRDO.

India’s scientists should research.

Indian industry should manufacture at scale.

Indian companies should commercialise Indian technology globally.

That is not selling India’s institutions. It is finally allowing their inventions to escape the laboratory, which the Congress never allowed to do since India's independence.

Rahul Gandhi’s “Break the Cage” call is disturbingly reminiscent of the “Pinjra Tod” campaign, which came under intense scrutiny for the alleged role of individuals associated with it in the violence surrounding the Delhi riots of 2020.

The question Rahul Gandhi needs to answer is simpler: Does his prescription for “freedom” and “agency” apply to women of every religious denomination, or is it reserved for lecturing women of the majority community?

Will he speak with the same conviction against the hijab, polygamy and practices such as halala?

Will he support a Uniform Civil Code, which seeks equal rights for women under a common legal framework?

And will he unequivocally support women’s reservation in legislatures, rather than merely delivering fashionable lectures about empowering women?

Women do not need selective feminism that changes its principles depending on the community involved.

If Rahul Gandhi truly wants to “break the cage”, let him make the principle universal. No exceptions, no vote-bank calculations, no selective outrage.
