Thinking back to some key clutch moments for the Wings this season and most times it either had to do with Paige and/or Azzi stepping up in those moments. Like my girls really saved this broke as team man 😭
I watched and listened to the entire post game interview and I don't see why everybody mad. A did get mentioned by Arike and in part by P as they both credited the entire team, including those missing. AC seemed to also have been the backbone that held them together.
I genuinely don’t think Azzi had a bad season. I think people are looking at the numbers without considering the environment that produced them. She was rarely given the consistency, stability or offensive involvement that would allow her to fully establish herself. She was used as a decoy, asked to create value without consistently being given the ball, and still found ways to matter.
And that’s what fascinates me. When one avenue was limited, she developed another. She became disruptive defensively. She adjusted. She found ways to leave fingerprints on games even when the offence wasn’t built to showcase her.
She was essentially a fish thrown onto land, and instead of proving she couldn’t survive there, she somehow started growing lungs. 😭
People look at that and see limitation. I see evidence of what happens when an exceptionally talented player is forced to adapt. Because eventually, somebody is going to put that fish back in water, except now it knows how to breathe on land too.
