Madonna scores her first French #1 in 18 years as Confessions II delivers the biggest pop debut of 2026

Vive la Madone! Confessions II has debuted at #1 on the official French albums chart (SNEP), dethroning Muse's The Wow! Signal and handing Madonna her first chart-topper in France since Hard Candy in 2008.

The numbers are seriously impressive. After moving 18,000 copies in its first three days — up 60% on Madame X over the same period — Confessions II closed its opening week on 25,491 units. That makes it the biggest first week of the year in France for an album by a female artist, ahead of Olivia Rodrigo, and the best pop launch of 2026. Madonna and Rodrigo are, in fact, the only two women to have reached #1 on the French chart so far this year.

For context: MDNA stalled at #2 behind Les Enfoirés in 2012; Rebel Heart reached #3 in 2015 with 17,000 copies; and Madame X had to settle for #4 in 2019 with 16,000, blocked by Nekfeu, Jul and Bruce Springsteen. This time, nothing stood in her way.

More than four decades into her career, the Queen of Pop is back on top in France. Everybody get up and dance!
