Sometime in 2002, I saw a man dressed in white, holding a maize staff, surrounded by an unbelievable crowd chanting various slogans including “Sai Mai Gaskiya” as they made their way along Palace Way in Jalingo, heading to the palace. It was love at first sight for me, and that moment awakened my political consciousness. It marked the beginning of my deep interest in national politics….That man was Muhammadu Buhari. He truly lived a a fulfilled life; one of only two individuals in our history to have led this country both as a military head of state and as a democratically elected President.
