I will reallocate time spent on these apps to instead learn a new language and read poems. Sometimes these poems will be written in the new language I am learning. This will result in a vast improvement over my current emotional status.
I wrote about the warped framing of @AOC as disruptive, norm-shattering and savvy and how it contrasts with the invisibility of Yoho’s opportunism and ambition: https://t.co/hcG5hrt1lz
If you're working to overthrow the two-party system or eliminate the electoral college, you should still vote! It doesn't make you a hypocrite; it makes you pragmatic. Electing progressive candidates makes it way more likely that your feedback will be heard by those in office.
Of course you shouldn't tell victims of voter suppression that this would all be better if they just voted. But if you're NOT a victim of voter suppression, the least you can do is vote. And vote for progressive candidates who will work to dismantle systems of voter suppression.
Racist violence and police murder are inherent to capitalism. It will be around until we get rid of capitalism.
Knowing this is also key to finding short term ways that we can collectively get some semblance of more immediate reprisal 4 these injustices
Follow me for a second
Not technically early teens, but at senior prom, my boyfriend got really mad at me because he thought I kept going to the bathroom to secretly get drunk, but, in reality, I kept going to the bathroom because the Italian food we had for dinner gave me diarrhea. OKAY I’M DONE.
I took mythology as an elective because I had a crush on the teacher, and then I was such a know-it-all in class that the teacher had to pull me aside to tell me to stop raising my hand because all the jocks and stoners hated me.
What are your most on-brand stories from your early teens? One of mine is definitely the time fourteen-year-old me told a group of girls that masturbation was normal and healthy and "a great way to know your body" but that personally, I did not do it.
People tend to be horrified when I tell them this story, but I think that forcing yourself and your children to acknowledge the thing that died so you could eat is an extremely responsible thing to do. ANYWAY, IF ANYONE NEEDS ME, I’LL BE CRYING.
Brian and I watched Babe this evening. I had not seen it in twenty years. I cried approximately eight times. It’s a masterpiece. I’m never eating pork again.
Sort of related: When I was a kid, my parents bought a cow and had it butchered so we could eat it. The cow’s name was Bunny. My parents hung a framed photo of Bunny on our wall, and anytime we ate her meat, we had to go over to the photo and say “thank you, Bunny.”
