Tonight we had the opportunity to hear from candidates from Texas House District 49! It’s clear that public education is and should be a top priority. Thank you so much to all the candidates that were able to join us!
Thank you to LASA High for hosting us!
Join me in a conversation with the candidates for House District 49. This candidate forum will focus on public education. All candidates have been invited to participate.
Friends,
Please read my blog on death and devastation in the Hill Country floods. https://t.co/pTdePUTfYX
If you've been watching the press conferences over the weekend, a lot of finger-pointing is going on.
This should point, among other things, to the vital role that Good Government can and should play w respect to natural disasters and other areas of public life.
This interview involving these young girls is extraordinary, btw.

I’m always excited when I get to treat teachers to small token of appreciation. Hope the campuses I visited enjoy their treats! #TeacherAppreciationWeek
Tonight I’m able to hear from @EveryTxn Legacy Award Winners about advocacy, equity, and access to quality healthcare. These individuals are so inspiring and working to make their communities better.
Over the next couple days I’ll be presenting at two different conference about advocacy in education. Teachers can make or break elections and have so much power when we work together. I’m excited to share advocacy tools with them! #teachers#publiceducation#advocacy
Important to note that official 2023 accountability ratings have not been released because over 100 districts sued TEA over the rescaling of the state’s A-F system, claiming the new standards would trigger letter grade drops even if performance improved. https://t.co/ugRFy4D68U
It’s been a while since I’ve posted, so here’s something that keep me up at night:
#teachers need to #vote
Find out who your representatives are and start interacting with them. See if their views align with yours. If so, rally for them, if not, support someone who does!
It was such a pleasure to give a workshop about advocacy at #LISDCIC ! It takes a village to support our students and teachers. These wonderful educators got to learn about how to advocate for the things they’re passionate about. @LeanderISD@LISD_IPL#1LISD
I’m at a superintendents training (as a sponsor for work) and hear this amazing statement.
“You can either affect people or infect people”
Remember that your attitude and mood matters.
Now is the time for the legislature to address the needs of the 5.5 million children in Texas public schools. Tell your lawmakers to use our historic budget surplus to provide urgently needed funding for public schools now! #txed#txlege

I’m at “The War Over School Choice” at #TribFest23
We have to stand up and say no to vouchers! Our public schools are the backbone of our communities and we should fully fund them NOW!
So excited to be at #TribFest23 this year. Currently at a podcast recording called Teaching Texas. Rep. @GinaForAustin is talking about how the state’s new textbook approval process will affect teachers and curriculum.
@DrCarlosHD talks about school safety & he said something that really stood out.He said“school safety has always been a issue in black & brown communities.”
It’s true, my HS required clear/mesh backpacks & uniforms, went through metal detectors every morning. @MASBATX
Great legislative panel at the @MASBATX conference. @DiegoBernalTX and @GaryVanDeaver are talking about what is happening in ed policy. Special session is around the corner, if you haven’t already, now is the time to get ready to advocate for public education.
I loved being back in my old teaching grounds yesterday. I spoke w/ staff & parents about advocacy. Although I’m not in the classroom anymore,my passion for education hasn’t wavered. Still working towards a better system for our students, just in a different capacity. @Perez_Elem
