As underlined on several occasions before, coveting or hallucinating about aggressive designs on the port/coastal region of a sovereign neighbor is a political blasphemy of the highest order. It indeed constitutes a grave and flagrant violation of international law; the UN Charter as well as the Constitutive Act of the African Union.

Invasion can never be packaged and camouflaged as "Ethiopia's (good-faith) maritime aspirations for Africa's unfinished integration".

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, @ymahmoudali this afternoon met with H.E. Mr. Biniam Berhe, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the State of #Eritrea to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU.

The meeting provided an opportunity for an exchange on matters concerning the AU and its priorities, including the outcome of the 49th AU Executive Council, & also the preparations for the upcoming 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State & Government of the AU in Luanda.

Facts matter. UN development grants allocated to Eritrea through UN agencies should not be portrayed as direct donor funding to the Government of Eritrea. Those funds are managed within the UN Cooperation Framework. Direct donor assistance is a different category altogether and typically involves budget support or donor-implemented programmes.

GENEVA —⚡️ The President of the United Nations Human Rights Council, H.E. Sidharto R. Suryodipuro, has appointed 𝗠𝗿. 𝗛𝗮𝗯𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗶 𝗚𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗶, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of #Eritrea's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, as 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿-𝗥𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝘂𝗿 of the 2026 Social Forum.

The appointment was made following a nomination process within the regional group, where Habtom was one of the candidates considered for the position.

The Social Forum is an annual meeting of the UN Human Rights Council that brings together governments, international organizations, civil society, and other stakeholders to discuss human rights issues related to social development.

On December 29, Chinese MFA spokesperson Lin Jian stressed that China expresses serious concern and firm opposition to  Israel formally recognized Somaliland as an "independent sovereign state".
According to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law, Somaliland is an inseparable part of Somalia's territory. China firmly supports Somalia’s sovereignty, reunification, territorial integrity, and opposes to any attempt to split Somalia territory.
The Somaliland issue is entirely an internal affair of Somalia and should be resolved by the people of Somalia in a manner consistent with their national conditions and constitution. Foreign countries should cease their undue interference. No country should incite or support separatist forces within another country for its own selfish interests. China urge the Somaliland authorities to recognize the situation and immediately cease separatist activities and collusion with external forces.

It is therefore striking that Prosperity Party cadres persist in drawing comparisons between #Ethiopia’s development trajectory and that of its neighbors, particularly #Eritrea, while disregarding historical context.

#Ethiopia|s policies over the past seven decades, including the #federation, #annexation, prolonged war marked by the deliberate destruction of vital economic and social infrastructure, 9 year long illegal and unjust @UN sanctions engineered by its sponsors, a sustained 25-year campaign of defamation and vilification, and refusal to implement the final and binding #delimitation and #demarcation decisions of the #Eritrea–#Ethiopia #BoundaryCommission, have directly disrupted and delayed #Eritrea|s economic development. Comparisons that disregard this historical and legal context are not analytical; they are selective and misleading.

From Eritrea’s perspective, “prosperity is not a slogan or a skyline”, but a moral and political test measured by the lived security, dignity, and cohesion of #Eritrean society. This cohesion underpins #Eritrea|s internal peace, stability, and security, and reflects the country’s conviction that #socialjustice is not a byproduct of growth but a central pillar of #development. Economic expansion alone does not automatically produce #fairness, #inclusion, or #dignity.

For #Eritrea, #socialjustice is intentionally built into development from the outset through policies that prevent marginalization, protect vulnerable groups, ensure equitable access to basic services, and avoid the politicization of identity. Growth on its own does not guarantee equal access to opportunity, protection from exclusion, or the fair distribution of resources. In many cases, rapid growth without justice deepens inequality, fragments societies, and fuels instability.

By prioritizing justice early, #Eritrea strengthens social trust and cohesion, essential foundations for peace, stability, and long-term prosperity. Durable prosperity rests on trust, inclusion, and restraint, not spectacle, acceleration, or outward projection. The need to parade visiting dignitaries in front of cameras in Addis Ababa in search of validation is telling; such displays would be unnecessary if governance enjoyed genuine domestic legitimacy.

For #Eritrea, protecting sovereignty, a necessary condition for safeguarding social cohesion and ensuring that development remains accountable to the people, is paramount. #Eritrea does not reject prosperity; it rejects prosperity without people.
