20.07.1974

36,2% of Republic of Cyprus territory remains occupied.

162,000 Greek-Cypriots became refugees in their own country.

1619 persons declared missing.  Today, 758 persons’ fate remains unknown.

20,000 Greek-Cypriots and Maronites chose not to leave their homes.   Today, 331 people are still enclaved.

Μore than 43.000 Turkish troops remain in the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus.

Since 1974, more than 160,000 Turks settlers were transferred to the occupied areas, altering Cyprus’ demographic profile and population balance.

Geographical names have been illegally changed and cultural and historical heritage is systematically eradicated aiming to the eventual "turkification" of the occupied areas.

Φτάνει. Yeter. Enough.

I am shocked and heartbroken by the tragic deaths of the @WCKitchen team while delivering lifesaving food aid in Gaza. This attack on our humanitarian community is unacceptable. The safety of aid workers is paramount, as is the safety of those who come to receive aid. #NotATarget

[Marios Georgiades @MaGeorgiades]

Cyprus 🇨🇾 will remain a reliable partner of @WFP in response to supporting lifesaving operations in Gaza and other humanitarian crises.

Cyprus is also leading and promoting a Maritime Corridor Initiative that would enable the transfer of humanitarian aid from Cyprus to Gaza.

"It's a shared pain with all Gazans. I wish lack of food & water was all we had to worry about. I wish we didn't have to worry about our survival."

Diary of a dear @WFP team member in #Gaza. Her words echo in my ear & remind us why the work must go on.

[WFP Chief @WFPChief]

Tragedy continues to unfold in #Gaza before our eyes.

People are terrified, exhausted, hungry.

More aid needs to enter Gaza.

Humanitarians must be able to deliver it safely.

Civilians must be able to access it safely.

[WFP Chief @WFPChief]

We have lost contact with our teams in #Gaza.

The silence is deafening.

As conflict rages on, I am extremely worried for the safety of all humanitarian workers and civilians.

We are at a tipping point. Humanity must prevail.
