You can walk into a Catholic church almost anywhere on earth and know exactly where you are.

You could be in Rome, Poland, Kenya, Mexico, the Philippines, or sitting in a nearly empty parish in Chester County on a Tuesday morning. You may not understand a word being spoken, but you will still recognize the Mass. You will know when to stand, when to kneel, what is happening at the altar, and why everyone came.

That alone is incredible. But then you remember what it took for the Mass to survive.

It was offered in catacombs when Christians had to hide. It was offered in prison camps, during wars, in Irish homes when the faith was persecuted, and in underground churches where being caught could cost people everything. Priests risked their lives to celebrate it. Catholics risked theirs just to be there.

Kings died. Empires collapsed. Borders changed. Whole countries disappeared.

The Mass continued.

And now I get to walk into my church on an ordinary weekday morning and step into the same worship Catholics have carried across centuries.

That is what gets me.

Catholicism is not tied to one country, one culture, one preacher, or one generation. The Church is bigger than all of that.

You can cross an ocean, walk through the doors of a Catholic church, and still know exactly where you are.

TESIS PROTESTANTE:

«¿Cómo podía Jesús darles a comer su cuerpo y a beber su sangre en la Última Cena, si todavía no había muerto ni se había realizado el sacrificio de la cruz? Por tanto, la Eucaristía solo podía ser simbólica».

¿Cuántas veces hemos escuchado esta pregunta de nuestros amigos protestantes cuando el católico defiende la presencia real de Cristo en la Eucaristía?

Esta semana abordaré esta cuestión en tres entregas.

Primera entrega: analizaremos los fundamentos bíblicos, comenzando por la teología de los Evangelios sinópticos y del Evangelio de Juan, atendiendo a sus respectivos enfoques y a la relación entre la Última Cena, la Pascua y el sacrificio de Cristo.

Segunda entrega: profundizaremos en la teología sacramental de la Eucaristía, para comprender qué significa que Cristo esté realmente presente y por qué la Eucaristía no puede reducirse a un mero símbolo o recuerdo subjetivo.

Tercera entrega: abordaremos la cuestión desde el enfoque escolástico, particularmente desde Santo Tomás de Aquino, para concluir con la doctrina definida por el Concilio de Trento.

Nimeona matusi na sintofahamu nyingi mtandaoni baada ya kuchapisha ujumbe wa kutoa pole kwa Mama Samia, hasa niliponukuu salamu za pole za Mwenyekiti Lissu kutoka gerezani.

Kwa sisi jamii tunaodai kupigania uhuru wa maoni na demokrasia, hili linapaswa kutufikirisha. Kutofautiana kwa hoja hakuhitaji matusi, dhihaka wala chuki.

Lissu amekaa gerezani takribani mwaka mmoja na miezi sita, akikabiliwa na kesi ambayo sisi tunaamini ni ya kisiasa na isiyo na haki. Anafahamu yaliyompata na serikali iliyomweka mahabusu. Lakini alipofahamishwa kuhusu msiba wa mume wa Mama Samia, akiwa mbele ya mahakama, alitoa salamu zake za pole kwa wafiwa mara mbili.

Huu si unyonge. Hii ni hekima, utu na ukomavu wa kiwango cha juu.

Na si mara ya kwanza. Aliwahi pia kumtetea Sabaya katika kesi yake Moshi. Wengi tulishangaa, nami nilishangaa. Lakini nilipomuuliza baadaye, nilielewa kwamba kwake haki haichagui upande.

Hilo ndilo fundisho kubwa tunalopaswa kulibeba. Tunaweza kupinga serikali, kudai haki na kupigania demokrasia bila kujenga harakati zetu juu ya chuki na kisasi.

Lakini kama tunasema tunampenda Lissu, basi pale anaposema ana pumzi ya kuvumilia mateso na kukaa gerezani, sisi tunapaswa kuchukua kauli hiyo kama mwito wa ujasiri, si ruhusa ya kukaa kimya.

Kama tunaamini kesi hii si ya haki, basi viongozi tunanapaswa kuwaongoza wananchi katika hatua za amani, kisheria na kidemokrasia za kudai haki, pengine kwa njia ya maandamano. Sio kwenye keyboard tu na microphone.

Demokrasia inahitaji wananchi wanaothubutu kusimama kwa kile wanachoamini. Na kama siku moja tutapata nafasi ya kuongoza nchi hii, tusije tukarudia makosa tunayoyapinga leo. Lazima tutawala kwa haki, utu na dhamira njema.

Mimi nitasimama kwenye upendo, utu na haki siku zote ktk kazi hii. Anyway , hekima ya Lissu kutoa pole kwa Mama Samia was a top-class thinking. Inaonyesha kwamba hata unapoteseka, unaweza kuchagua utu, hata unapopinga, unaweza kukataa kisasi.

Wakati mwingine Mungu hataki umshinde adui yako kwa chuki, bali kwa upendo, hekima na maisha yenye ushuhuda kwamba uovu wake haukukushinda.

Mimi niko tayari kusimama kwa amani na kwa ujasiri. Katika hatua ya kupigania uhuru wa Lissu kuwa nje ya kuta za gereza na sio kusema ana pumzi ya kukaa jela hata maisha. Tuna watu wengi sana Chama hiki , pumzi yetu itoke mtandaoni , fikeni tu hata mahakamani kwa sasa na huku viongozi wakuu watusaidie kutafakari jambo muhimu la haki , sheria na amani.

If you think miracles stopped after the Bible, this World War II account about Padre Pio may challenge you.

During the war, Foggia and much of the area around it were being bombed. But according to testimony later included in Padre Pio’s cause for canonization, something strange kept happening when Allied pilots flew near San Giovanni Rotondo, the town where Padre Pio lived.

Pilots began coming back with the same strange story. They said a friar appeared in the sky and stopped them from dropping their bombs.

At first, many people laughed. But reports kept coming from different pilots, so Italian Air Force General Bernardo Rosini decided to see what was happening for himself.

According to the testimony, when the planes reached the target, the pilots saw a friar in the sky with his hands raised. But that was not all. The bombs reportedly released and fell into the woods, while the planes turned away without the pilots controlling the change.

San Giovanni Rotondo was spared.

But the pilots still had one huge question.

Who was the friar?

They were told about Padre Pio, a Capuchin priest living in the town. So after the war, the general went to the convent with other pilots.

The moment he saw Padre Pio, he reportedly recognized him as the friar from the sky.

But before he could explain why he was there, Padre Pio is said to have looked at him and said:

“So, are you the one who wanted to eliminate us all?”

Catholics are not required to believe this story. But it was preserved in testimony connected to Padre Pio’s canonization cause, and the Church later declared Padre Pio a saint.

Maybe the real question is not whether God can still do things we cannot explain.

It is whether we still believe He can.

Lastly, no divine oracles of prophets in a previous age bore witness to him; rather, he corrupted almost all the teaching of the Old and New Testaments by a narrative replete with fables, as one may see by a perusal of his law.

Hence, by a cunning device, he did not commit the reading of the Old and New Testament books to his followers, lest he should thereby be convicted of falsehood. Thus it is evident that those who believe his words believe lightly.”
