This format was fine last time around. It’s dragging this time. I’d honestly prefer to bring back Chapek rifling through announcements and bringing out the Target dog than this mess.
Seriously. We’ve gotten:
- Yeti being fixed
- Terre à la Lune returning
- Imagineering Story szn 2
And that’s kind of it in terms actually new news, nearly two hours into the presentation.
You can glean they decided not to share some of the bigger 5 year roadmap plans for Disney Parks when they're spending half an hour re-announcing 2024 Tropical Americas details and a Disney Jr Cars show
Great write-up by Tom as usual.
I’ll add that the benefit of having partners like Miral is similar to having OLC. These 3rd parties fund WDI projects that develop new ride tech, which eventually trickles down to the domestic parks.
If you're wondering why Disney chose the United Arab Emirates over new parks in Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brazil, Texas, here's the answer--both the official, diplomatic one and the *real* reason. https://t.co/Gxu4P19wgQ
I really thought we’d see another Chinese park before we got a Middle East park. But the fact that Miral Group, which has built some amazing destinations, wanted to front all the money… well… who else was going to offer that?
@MCO Very jolly, but would even more jolly if I got some #MCOSocks - I’m at MCO all day. As a very frequent visitor from Canada (seriously, MCO is my most visited airport at like 75+ trips), can you hook me up?
I am very sad to be losing my favourite ride soon, which I cried over when I rode it for likely the last time this week. While I understand how dated it is, I will miss it dearly more than any other ride of the past. So I don’t blame MV3D fans who feel the same. It sucks. A lot.
In other words, “We’re gonna put it on Disney+”
I dunno, it’s tough to know what to do with it. But I’m baffled by what the heck they’re doing with Animation Courtyard in this case. There has to be a good reason they’re not using that space.
Disney says there is still time to enjoy Rock 'n Roller Coaster and Muppet*Vision 3D. Also about Muppet*Vision 3D, Disney says: "...we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future."
The good things about this announcement:
- Adds capacity back to Studios with the coaster + theatre.
- Muppets replacing Aerosmith seems like a good call
- That whole back corner of Studios gets more life again. It is unbelievably dead back there.

NEW: Monsters, Inc. land will replace Muppets Courtyard and Muppet*Vision 3D at Disney's Hollywood Studios. To make way for monsters, the Muppets will take over Rock 'n Roller Coaster and "team up with music's biggest starts for a rockin' music festival."
For all the flak that Chapek got, and deservedly so, we still see no criticism of Daddy Josh for this slew of crazy upcharges. I still think D’Amaro is better than Chapek, but an MBA is an MBA.
