@davidlubar@torbooks I was 11 or 12 when I read it I think and it's still one of my favorite books. I really wanted to emulate it for a very long time and sits as one of the inspo to my current work. If I knew what fanfiction was back then I probably would have been an absolute fiend at it ๐ tyvm!
@autumnwritesya I write at panera cuz it has wifi and free drink refills and I almost always have my headphones in because the store radio makes me rageful. But I like to do it because it helps me focus away from all the things that demand my attention at home
If you don't properly value your time, those you work with my inadvertently or intentionally take advantage. Don't sell yourself short. Your work, and your time, are hella valuable.
The editing comes later. The context of when these advices are needed comes later. Is it important? Yes. But not at the loss of being able to tell the story in your head and heart.
The most frustrating thing I've seen with new writers is that they have internalized all the context-less advice like show-dont-tell, and don't use -ly words, and don't use anything other than said and inadvertently destroy the basis of exploring their own craft.
All these nuggets of advice can hinder you instead of helping you because they apply a level of unnecessary prescriptivism to the first lesson: JUST WRITE. Just write bad. Just write telling. Just write what you feel is right.
@bethklewis I'm currently at this stage where it's simultaneously the best thing I've ever written but also I can see the growth potential. Draft 3 is gonna be ๐ฅ
@SimmonsDies Ancient peoples genuinely believed that semen was stored in the brain and/or nervous system. Somebody read about this probably and decided that it was fact lol
