OYO STATE POLICE COMMAND COMMENCES STATEWIDE ENFORCEMENT ON VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION COMPLIANCE AND CRIME PREVENTION OPERATIONS
The Oyo State Police Command, in furtherance of its unwavering commitment to ensuring a safer and more secure environment and in line with ongoing efforts to rid the State of violent crime and other forms of criminality, has commenced a statewide enforcement operation targeting unmarked vehicular objects, fake and obscured number plates, as well as unauthorized covering of vehicle plates.
This enforcement action, which commenced yesterday, is aimed at ensuring strict compliance with lawful vehicle identification standards and enhancing overall public safety and security architecture within the State.
Accordingly, any person or persons found violating these directives will be promptly arrested, while such vehicles or motorcycles will be impounded in line with extant laws and operational procedures.
Furthermore, the Command will sustain intermittent stop-and-search operations, intelligence-led patrols, and coordinated raids of identified criminal blackspots across the State. There will also be increased police visibility and strategic deployment of personnel within key locations across urban and rural areas.
These measures are part of a broader security framework designed to deter criminal activities, enhance rapid response capabilities, and strengthen public confidence in policing operations.
Members of the public are therefore urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with Police personnel during the course of these operations, as these actions are strictly in the interest of public safety and security.
The Command appreciates the continued support and understanding of residents and assures that all operations will be conducted professionally, lawfully, and with due respect for human rights.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji @biodunaoyebanji joined Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, for the commissioning of a modern ICT Experience Centre designed to expand digital learning and innovation opportunities for students.

Facilitated through the Renewed Hope Initiative in partnership with TETFund, the facility is expected to strengthen digital skills development, support research and prepare young people for opportunities in an increasingly technology-driven world.

The project further reinforces ongoing efforts to position Ekiti as a centre for knowledge, innovation and human capital development, while creating pathways for students to compete confidently in the global digital economy.

PROFESSOR CHARITY AREMU CHARGES GOVERNMENT TO INITIATE POLICIES TO DRIVE YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN AGRICULTURE

The Vice Chancellor of Venite University, Iloro Ekiti, Professor Charity Onye Aremu, has called on government at all levels to initiate policies that will promote youth participation in agriculture and enhance cassava production and processing in Nigeria.

She made this call while delivering the keynote address at the 3rd Annual Agbeyewa Traditional Rulers Retreat held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort and Conference Center.

Professor Aremu emphasised the need for deliberate government policies that will strengthen cassava value chains, improve processing systems, and boost productivity in the agricultural sector. She also reiterated the importance of engaging farmers associations in Ekiti State to drive a purposeful vision towards achieving greater progress in agriculture.

Highlighting the importance of youth inclusion, the Vice Chancellor stressed the need to inspire and empower young people, particularly Generation Z, to take active roles in agriculture. She outlined three approaches to achieving this goal through the use of high technology, promotion of innovation, and the application of gamification such as competitions, dashboards, and hackathons to make agriculture more attractive.

Also speaking at the event, the Ekiti State Chief of Staff, Oyeniyi Adebayo, who represented the Governor, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting investors in agriculture. He stated that the government recognises the impact of enterprises like Agbeyewa and commended traditional rulers for their continued support.

He further assured stakeholders that land related challenges that may hinder investment would be resolved promptly, noting that the government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for agricultural development.
The retreat was attended by traditional rulers across Ekiti State, with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, serving as the Royal Father of the Day.

In her concluding remarks, Professor Aremu emphasised the need to create access to grants for agripreneurs, describing them as the “3ers” Growers, Consumers and Exporters as a pathway to sustainable agricultural development and economic transformation.

VENITE UNIVERSITY VC URGES EKITI TRADITIONAL RULERS TO SUPPORT AGBEYEWA’S AGRICULTURAL DRIVE

The Vice-Chancellor of Venite University, Iloro-Ekiti, Professor Charity Onye Aremu, has called on traditional rulers in Ekiti State to support the expansion of Agbeyewa’s agricultural initiative as part of efforts to drive economic transformation in Nigeria.

She made this appeal on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the 3rd Annual Agbeyewa Traditional Rulers Retreat held at Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort and Conference Center.

Speaking at the event, Professor Aremu highlighted that Agbeyewa’s core mission is to build healthy and thriving communities through sustainable agro-allied investments, stressing that collaboration is vital for meaningful transformation.

She emphasised the need for a mindset shift, noting that “perspective defines what you see,” and that such change is essential to move from mere production to value addition, where farm produce becomes finished products of greater economic value.

Describing Agbeyewa as a leading Agripreneurial initiative, she said its products should be in every household in Ekiti State, achievable with the support of traditional rulers who are key to grassroots mobilisation. She also stressed increased food production, citing John Dewey that “food brings happiness,” and added that Agbeyewa aims to restore prosperity and well-being among Nigerians, starting from Ekiti State.

Professor Aremu further charged that individuals and communities have “two choices” ; to accept unfavourable conditions or take responsibility to create positive change, commending Agbeyewa for choosing transformation.

Also speaking at the event, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Royal Father of the Day, praised Agbeyewa and its Chairman, Niyi John Olajide, noting that Olajide has established over 500 companies in the United States and is replicating similar success in Nigeria.

The monarch described Agbeyewa as the largest cassava farm in the world and Nigeria’s biggest cassava farm reserve, highlighting its potential to boost food security and employment.

In her concluding remarks, the Vice-Chancellor reiterated that combating poverty requires agricultural entrepreneurship, urging agripreneurs to act as intermediaries between corporate organisations and rural farmers through corporate social responsibility in collaboration with traditional rulers and community leaders.

The retreat brought together key stakeholders in agriculture, academics, and traditional institutions, reinforcing the role of partnership in advancing Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

I visited the movie locations of the Ekiti Parapo War film currently being shot across different locations in Ado Ekiti, and I am impressed by the scale, depth, and commitment to historical accuracy on display.

Our history matters. A people without a properly told history risk losing their identity, and that is why my administration remains committed to the preservation and proper documentation of Ekiti’s heritage for present and future generations.

Although this project is not sponsored by the Ekiti State Government, I am glad to support initiatives like this by mobilising goodwill from friends and partners who share our belief in telling our stories by ourselves. I commend Lateef Adedimeji, Bimpe Adedimeji, and the entire production team for their professionalism, creativity, and respect for Ekiti history.

Ekiti State hosted the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Social Investment Programme Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS, 3rd Edition), a compassionate intervention aimed at improving the welfare of senior citizens across Nigeria.

The programme delivered financial support to 250 elderly beneficiaries drawn from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda’s commitment to social inclusion.

The initiative, a flagship programme of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was represented by the Wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Her Excellency, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, at the event.

It was a pleasure to preside over the swearing- in of the recalled Commissioners and Special Advisers, and to welcome them back to the State Executive Council with a renewed charge to serve Ekiti people with diligence, integrity and accountability.

As I reminded them, public office is a call to responsibility. Our people expect hard work, creativity, transparency and results. The last three years have shown what we can achieve when we work together with commitment. We have made strong progress in infrastructure, agriculture, education, health and economic development, but there is still much more to do.

This new phase demands greater focus and dedication. I have returned all recalled members to their former portfolios so they can hit the ground running without delay. Election season is approaching, and this is the time for absolute loyalty, teamwork and presence in our communities. Our duty remains to deliver good governance and to continue earning the trust of Ekiti people.

I congratulate all members of the reconstituted Executive Council and urge them to justify the confidence reposed in them. Together, we will consolidate our gains and keep moving Ekiti forward on the path of shared prosperity.

It was a delight to witness the first commercial flight land at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Airport, a project that has been close to my heart for many years. Standing on that runway again, this time as a guest on the maiden commercial flight, filled me with a deep sense of fulfilment and gratitude.

When I inaugurated this airport on the final day of my tenure, I spoke about its purpose as an economic catalyst for our state. I highlighted its world-class specifications, its capacity to handle large cargo aircraft, and its potential to transform agriculture, commerce, tourism, education and many other sectors. I also noted then that, while aircraft could already take off and land, there were still essential ancillary components that needed to be completed for full commercial operations. I expressed confidence that the incoming administration would finish the task.

Today, I am pleased that this confidence was well placed. Governor Biodun Oyebanji @biodunaoyebanji and his team have done an excellent job in completing the outstanding phases and opening the airport for full commercial flights. This continuity of governance is something we have long advocated in Ekiti, and this milestone stands as proof of what is possible when each administration builds on the work of the previous one.

…Says Over N49 Billion Expended on Airport Project

History was made in Ekiti on Wednesday as Governor, Biodun Oyebanji led other dignitaries to receive the first commercial flight at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, in Ado Ekiti, describing the project as a major milestone in the state’s quest for economic growth and enhanced connectivity.

The United Nigeria aircraft with registration number 5N-BWY and about 50 passengers on board, arrived the airport at about 11:09 am and departed at 12.00 noon for Lagos.

Dignitaries on board the first commercial flight include Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele; three former Governors of the State- Dr Kayode Fayemi, Otunba Niyi Adebayo and Dr Ayodele Fayose. Also on board were members of the National Assembly from Ekiti State; Chairman of United Nigeria Airline, Prof Obiora Okonkwo; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr Yakubu Adam, and a former minister of Aviation, Mr Babatola among others.

They were received by Governor Oyebanji; his wife, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji; Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye; former Governor Segun Oni; Technical Advisor on Airport Project, AVM Sunday Makinde (rtd) and other state officials.

Speaking during the historic event, Governor Oyebanji, who disclosed that over N49 billion was expended on the execution of the project, noted that the investment reflected the state government’s commitment to critical infrastructure that would stimulate development, attract investors and create jobs for the people of the state.

Governor Oyebanji said the airport was strategically designed to support the export of agro-produce, boost value chains and reduce post-harvest losses for farmers, the Governor said the airport would also open Ekiti to global opportunities, particularly in agriculture, commerce and tourism.

Commending his predecessors for their efforts at birthing the airport, particularly Governor Kayode Fayemi who laid the foundation, and took the project to a substantial level, Oyebanji said the completion of the project underscored the gains of continuity in governance.

The Governor, also commended members of the National Assembly from the State for their support towards the actualization of the project, assured that his government would put in place necessary institutional framework and partnership to ensure optimal utilization and sustainability of the project.

While expressing his deepest appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu whose economic reforms freed resources to sub-national and made such project possible for the development of the state, the Governor also thanked the Founder of Afe Babalola University, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) for his selflessness, generosity and unflinching support to the airport project.

The Governor commended Chief Afe Babalola for the donation of navigational aids (CVOR/DME) and control tower equipment worth $1.6 million and the construction of 100-cars capacity car park, at the cost of N356 million

The Governor also appreciate the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN for his relentless support and encouragement in ensuring the completion of this Airport, as well as United Nigeria Airlines for accepting to partner the state.

The Governor charged Ekiti people, particularly the entrepreneurs, investors, farmers and young professionals to the airport to expand their business, access new markets and create wealth, stressing that improved air transport would accelerate trade, tourism and overall economic prosperity in the state.
