Harvard Carr-Ryan Senior Fellow. Former NSC, @SenateForeign, @NikkiHaley, @UKinUSA, @marcorubio. Love coffee & STL @Cardinals. My alias is human rights diva.
From this moment on: @magtherose and I were overjoyed to welcome more than 200 friends and family to our wedding in St. Louis this weekend, with the ceremony at the Basilica Cathedral and reception at Union Station’s Grand Hall.
In personal news, yesterday @magtherose and I canoed out into the crystal lagoon beneath Mount Otemanu in Bora Bora, jeweled in vibrant flowers, where I asked her to marry me.
She said yes, and is now known in French Polynesia as the future ‘Madame Herman.’
A press briefing will follow upon our return to Washington, DC.

The industrial-scale slaughter of Syrian people by the Assad regime must be brought into the light of day, documented, and prosecuted. #Assad and his associates must face long overdue justice for his crimes against humanity.
It's outrageous that #Maduro arrested a prominent activist @jesusarmasccs yesterday on International #HumanRightsDay. Armas, and other Venezuelan political prisoners, should be released immediately.
#China continues to target Uyghurs, Tibetans, and other persecuted minorities to erase their language, faith, & identity. It remains the world’s largest perpetrator of transnational repression and has increasingly waged legal warfare against those who oppose the CCP.
In #Burma, the civil war has created a destabilizing environment that has enabled the rapid growth of cyberscam centers, in which hundreds of thousands are forced into criminal activity.
#Iran’s authoritarian regime will stop at nothing to ensure it erases the fundamental freedoms of those who opposes the regime - inside its borders or out. Human rights matter little to a regime concerned only with self-preservation and power.
In #Belarus, the regime has crushed all fundamental freedoms & seeks to silence dissenters abroad. #Georgia's decision to restrict civic freedoms & attack peaceful activists raises serious human rights concerns.
The Biden Admin continues to ignore #humanrights issues in Africa. I'll continue to push for GloMag sanctions in #Sudan in response to genocide. During his recent trip to #Angola, Biden prioritized infrastructure projects over the gov't's abuses.
On #HumanRightsDay, the world must recommit to holding the #Maduro regime accountable for decimating its opposition and eroding any semblance of free & fair elections. The people of #Venezuela deserve to pursue their democratic aspirations.
.@SenateForeign Ranking Member Risch calls out the Biden Admin for failing to designate Hemedti & RSF under Global Magnitsky sanctions following the latest round of atrocity-laden attacks by the RSF, this time on the famine-stricken #Zamzam IDP Camp, targeting women and children.
Rule of law & autonomy are already dead in #HongKong, but the gov't’s sentencing of 45 pro-democracy leaders is a travesty of justice. I also continue to be disgusted by Jimmy Lai’s treatment at the hands of HK authorities. They should all be released now. https://t.co/gVg8IoVZrV
Cambodian journalist Mech Dara’s release on bail is a welcome first step. Next, the government should drop its charges against him. Reporting is not a crime. https://t.co/0dJiZsiLTq
It’s good to see the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act entity list updated to include two more companies persecuting #Uyghurs through forced labor. The U.S. will continue to hold #China accountable for these horrific human rights abuses. https://t.co/fwH9ryBr1j.
Everyday humanitarians work courageously & tirelessly across the globe to help protect & support the people who need it most. I am grateful for the work they do to ensure a better world for us all. We honor their sacrifice on #WorldHumanitarianDay.
On #WorldHumanitarianDay we must think of people suffering worldwide who deserve to live with peace & dignity. War & famine in Sudan deserves our attention as millions of Sudanese are displaced, & tens of thousands dead. We must do more to get assistance to the Sudanese people.
Zim activists charged with “disorderly conduct for allegedly protesting outside a court in June about the arrest of dozens of opposition supporters” were denied bail for fear they would “abscond, could commit other offences and cause public despondency.” https://t.co/8UBKsqzZJR
