One of the most insightful interviews on the cloud industry from an industry expert director/cloud consultant:

- Clients pick AWS because they have the biggest “menu” and you can basically solve any problem you have on AWS.

- In his view, Azure is not necessarily the fastest for straight infrastructure, but if you need to manage an Active Directory, $MSFT is your place to go.

- GCP is the fastest in terms of infrastructure. It is set for burst-y type of workloads. If you need scale in a matter of seconds, $GOOGL is the place for you.

- The reason for you to use $ORCL cloud is mostly if you have an $ORCL database which is notoriously difficult to run in the cloud.

- The advantage of Big Tech processors CPUs is mostly in price-performance as they consume much less electricity and are cheaper because they skip $AMD, $INTC and go straight to the foundry. (with ARM design). The expert estimates it is similar with AI/ML types of chips which are now getting ramped up by $GOOGL and $AMZN.

- All Fortune 1000 size companies have at least 2 cloud providers as they want competitive pricing and less of a “lock up”.

- User-facing apps like Office or Gdocs is not really the main driver of why client choose a cloud provider. It’s more about whether you use $MSFT SQL servers, .NET, C# (you would prefer Azure), whereas is with Linux, Ruby, AJAX, JavaScript, Node.js, you would maybe prefer AWS or GCP.
