So I’ve been carrying this one for years and I think it’s finally time to let it out.

My elder sister used to sneak into my room every night when we were kids and sleep on the floor right next to my bed. I thought it was the coolest thing.... like we were having secret sleepovers and she just loved hanging with her lil bro. I’d wake up and there she’d be with her little blanket, whispering “I got you” if I had a nightmare. I bragged about it to everybody.

Last month we were at a family cookout and she got a little too tipsy and finally told me the truth.

She wasn’t there because he wanted to play big Sister. Mom and Dad were going through it heavy back then... Screaming matches, doors slamming, sometimes Mom wouldn’t come home for a day or two. She was only 10 but She’d hear everything and She didn’t want me to wake up scared and alone. So She’d drag her blanket in every single night and sleep on that cold floor just so I wouldn’t have to deal with it.

I sat there replaying every “sleepover” like a movie on 2x speed. I never noticed. I used to tease her for being a “baby” who couldn’t sleep by herself.

She’s 28 now, doing good, got her own family… but damn. She carried all that weight so I could stay innocent a little longer.

I looked at her across the table and just said “Thank you.” She tried to play it off but I saw her eyes get watery.

I have not seen a single mainstream media outlet give this the attention it deserves.

Israel blew up an entire Lebanese town, an ancient place. It should be headline news. There’s footage of it happening.

Imagine this was your town, and you saw every building blown up by a terrorist army to prevent you from ever returning. You would at the very least expect wall to wall coverage. Instead it passes without a word.
