When it comes to protecting patron privacy, possibly the most important thing libraries can do is a simple one; making sure that all publicly available services/programs the library offers are not able to collect information for any other entity. #INFO246w43

@EmilySue246 That's a really excellent suggestion. Collecting data for a specific, actionable purpose that directly helps the communities they serve. The larger data gathering efforts often seem to lose a bit of purpose in their expanded scope.

Big data doesn't always have be for big uses. One of the things smaller libraries can use from the big data collection efforts is what tangible services people in communities like theirs are actually using that they don't yet have; for example, a library of things. #INFO246w320

@RobbieJ246 You're absolutely right. The sheer volume of it all makes us have to do so much sifting to find the real authorities on any given subject that the work of teaching people what information is worth seeing has increased exponentially.
