I am honored to be awarded the Physician of the Year (POTY) 2023, a special recognition for my exceptional contributions to the Health Sector in Nigeria. We are fully committed to the development of the health sector under the renewed hope agenda of Mr President.
Creating a health data system that is digitized, interoperable, and provides accurate reports for real-time decision-making is a fundamental enabler for the implementation of the National Health Act and the aspirations we have set.
The Government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, @officialABAT is determined to use of digital technologies and tools to improve and transform healthcare processes, services and deliver equitable outcomes for all Nigerians.
We will revise and rapidly implement the National Health Data Governance Framework and governance structures across the spectrum to deliver efficient and comprehensive healthcare services.
This will bridge implementation gaps, reduce human error and provide a solid accountability mechanism with a clear and transparent impact assessment means.
We are embracing a sector-wide approach rallying other government agencies, development partners, private sector and people of Nigeria to reduce fragmentation for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness.
Our meeting with Dr Bosun Tijani @bosuntijani, the Hon. Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, @FMoCDENigeria, and his team was to identify areas of alignment and how ICT could be better leveraged to transform Nigeria’s health sector.
Minister Bosun Tijjani is fantastic and visionary leader, we see his Ministry as a key enabler for our sectoral work in delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda for quality health outcomes.
We agreed that digitalizing Nigeria’s healthcare system will help connect and empower our populations, especially rural communities using mobile telephony and other tools, to better access healthcare and wellness. Indeed, the success of #BHCPF 2.0 and plans to revitalize our primary health care system, and federal hospitals, will benefit from a versatile and well integrated Electronic Medical Records system. We also agreed to jointly set a health sector artificial intelligence and machine learning hub hosted at the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development.
Thank you Minister Bosun Tijjani for the courtesy and we have much to do together ahead!
I am honoured and delighted to be the recipient of the 2023 Roux Prize on behalf of the many colleagues whose labour I represent. I hope this motivates others to pursue a career in global public health.
