@thebeirutbanyan@GhassanSalame Ghassane Salame knows what he is talking about; he is not just any minister. If you think Lebanese Army can defeat Hizbollah; think of Yemen, Sudan and Libya where all internal attempts to rule by force led nowhere
Israel’s Op. Eternal Darkness in Lebanon reminds me of filming in a Beirut hospital during the Israeli invasion of 1982. The doctors had to concentrate on the most life-threatening injuries, which were mostly internal. We filmed in the corridor outside the operating theatre. Each new stretcher paused so a line of young boys could grab the biggest chunks of shrapnel sticking out of the patients and yank them out under the direction of a nurse. The groaning of the victims as the shrapnel came out was something I can’t forget. Four decades on, similar things are happening yet again.
@makramrabah I had to re-read Michael's post. He wrote: "Will Israel try?" He didn't say anything else about the Druze community. Israel tries to create alliances everywhere including in Gaza.
@asadabukhalil It doesn't matter what people consider themselves; it only matters what others consider them. At various periods of US history, Germans didn't "fit", Italians, Slavs, Greeks, Irish and Poles. I observe for Levantines, your class decides how others classify you.
