All sovereign power in Kenya belongs to the people and is only delegated to leaders, not surrendered. Leaders are expected to serve with integrity, transparency, and accountability under Chapter Six of the Constitution.

When young people skip public participation, they give up their power and become part of the problems they complain about.
The Constitution of Kenya (Art. 1 & 10) gives every citizen the right and responsibility to shape decisions through participation #MaskaniKiambu@Maskani254
If we as young people do not actively take part in public participation processes, then we become part of the problem we are complaining about. Youth must stay informed and exercise their constitutional right to participate in decision-making.
The Constitution of Kenya guarantees this right under Article 10 (National Values and Principles of Governance), which includes public participation as a core principle, and Article 1, which affirms that sovereign power belongs to the people and is exercised directly through participation.
Public participation is not optional,it is a constitutional responsibility and a democratic tool for accountability, transparency, and inclusion. Young people must show up, speak up, and shape the decisions that affect their lives.#MaskaniKiambu
Youth employability summits in Kiambu have been politicised and are seen by many young people as a sham, with concerns that the Governor ferries participants from other counties instead of prioritising youth from Kiambu.
Despite public funds being used to organise these summits, they have become spaces used to profile young people politically ( kama uko wantam or two term)rather than genuinely address unemployment or create fair opportunities for local youth.
At the same time, access to voluntary opportunities within the county has been made more difficult, with young people required to present recommendation letters from chiefs before being considered.
Young people in Kiambu are calling for transparency, fairness, and merit-based systems that ensure county programmes truly benefit local youth and address the real unemployment challenge.

Pending issues π€ βοΈ much of Kiambu's budget goes to development and how much goes to salaries, allowances, and administration? Residents deserve value for their taxes.#MaskaniKiambu#FollowTheMoney#KiambuCounty@Maskani254
Today marks the final day of the #MaskaniKiambu inception training by Maskani ya Taifa, where young people have been equipped with practical skills in digital advocacy, narrative framing, digital security, and civic engagement to strengthen youth-led activism across Kiambu County.
Day Three has kicked off with engaging conversations that are giving the youth of Kiambu an opportunity to openly discuss issues affecting young people and communities across the county, including: unemployment, governance, social justice, accountability, corruption, bribery in employment, unequal access to opportunities, lack of access to public information, low transparency in budget processes, and challenges in public participation in county decision-making.
These discussions are creating a space for young people to share experiences, frame solutions, and build collective action for positive change.
Stay tuned for more insights and impactful conversations from #MaskaniKiambu.
Drug and substance abuse remains a serious challenge affecting young people, families, and communities across Kiambu County.
Many young people are exposed to pressure, stress, and difficult life circumstances that can push them toward substance use as a way of coping. However, this highlights the urgent need to address the root causes such as unemployment, mental health challenges, and lack of support systems, rather than focusing only on the behaviour itself.
Instead of harmful coping mechanisms, there is a need to strengthen awareness, expand access to support services, and create safer community spaces where young people can seek help and alternative pathways for healing and growth.
Youth voices must continue to advocate for prevention, rehabilitation, and sustainable solutions that protect the wellbeing and future of young people.
