๐Podcast for Disney nerds: history, opinions, vacation planning tips, films, art, and Cast Member stories!
๐ซMeet us at the crossroads of Main Street + Magic!
When I was a kid I never read "Tom Sawyer" or knew who "Mr Toad" was. It didn't matter! It was all about what we DO in these attractions we can't do at home. Hiding in Caves and crazy driving were high on my list as a 9 year old. Great attractions have a primal, timeless appeal.
A heartfelt goodbye to a piece of Magic Kingdom's soul.
They're paving over the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. For a Cars ride.
It was never about popularity. It was about the quiet moments. Grabbing a pretzel, watching the paddlewheel boat, and escaping the hustle. That quiet stretch of riverfront was the heart of the park's charm, a place where the frantic pace slowed to a gentle crawl.
Now, we face five years of construction walls carving up that heart. A constant reminder of what we've lost. It's not just the loss of a ride; it's the loss of a feeling, a memory, a piece of our childhoods.
An absolute tragedy for Magic Kingdom. And there's no going back.
Hundreds of Guests and Cast Members lined up along the Rivers of America to say goodbye to the Liberty Belle on her final lap around Magic Kingdom. ๐ฅน
There was something about Magic Kingdom's Frontierland that felt eternal-- a land in stasis that would always be. I guess because so little in it had changed over the last 50 years.
@BrianPMiles@FiBelleFi I knew it wad truly over when they replaced The Living Seas with a book report Nemo ride instead of using Mr. Ray, a teacher, to edutain people about the ocean. The most obvious and easy to pick low hanging fruit fell off the tree and rotted and everything is following.
Already making plans to carve out some time to hit TSI and get a bunch of photos when we go in January, before it gets disappeared.
If anyone wants photos of anything specific, tell me and I'll post them for posterity.
Walt Disney World submitted updated plans for the Frontierland expansion and Rivers of America "filling operation" following the state's request for changes and updates. The SFWMD now has 30 days to review the updates and ask for any additional information.
