Yesterday at the GDC (April Cohort), Professor Michael Kunnuji, Director at PIC institute, unpacked powerful gender-related theoretical frameworks, including types of feminist approaches, while Dr. Yinka Babalola, Country Director at the International Budget Partnership, delivered insightful perspectives on Gender Responsive Budgeting, we closed out with a session from Toyin Umoru on Gender-Responsive Monitoring Evaluation Research and Learning

The room was alive with curiosity, energy, and meaningful engagement, an unforgettable session.

Women don’t just struggle because of a lack of talent. Many times, it comes down to access. Access to mentorship, to sponsorship, to people willing to speak your name in rooms you haven’t entered yet.

And that gap quietly shapes outcomes.

This episode of #PurpleDiaries with Amb. Prof. Olufolake AbdulRazaq @firstladykwara reflects on the kind of work that often goes unseen. The work of creating pathways, opening doors, and supporting women as they step into leadership.

At the same time, it gives an important reminder. A balanced society cannot be built by focusing on one side alone: leaving boys behind only creates another gap.

This reflection from one participant stayed with us after the SWOLE session in Lagos. For us at the Policy Innovation Centre (PIC), that sense of possibility is one reason why co-creation is at the heart of our work. With support from @coimpactcollab, SWOLE Co-creation sessions brings together stakeholders across career stages to shine a light on the barriers women in economics academia face, and to imagine bold, collective solutions.

The real power lies in the exchange where perspectives expand, and new paths forward are born.

Building on the momentum from Lagos, we recently brought more universities into the conversation in Abuja, and we can’t wait to share the highlights.
