Spain has atrociously low birth rates (1.12 fertility rate), that will result in a halving in size of each generation.

And what do they do then, seeing this? They tax working families at exceedingly high rates, and uses this money to give tax transfers to pensioners.

When Spanish families buy clothes and food for their children, this is taxed by high consumption taxes, which again goes in cash transfers to pensioners.

Little of the taxed money go to children, other than for education.

Spain will wither away to nothing. It will be empty playgrounds, and then an empty country. But at least pensioners were comfortable for a while.
