Mirza Ghalib's mother Izzat-un-Nisa Begum was an ethnic Kashmiri. She was the daughter of Khwaja Ghulam Hussain Khan who lived in Agra in an area called Kashmirian ka Kada, a locality of Kashmiri migrants. Ghalib's father lived with his in-laws.
