Months after the incident, surveillance footage has now surfaced showing the moments leading up to the fatal shooting tied to the attempted robbery in Cicero.
The video appears to show what investigators originally believed was a setup connected to an online marketplace deal.
Two 16-year-old boys met to finalize the sale of a shirt that had been arranged through a social media marketplace.
In the footage, a person selling a shirt is seen meeting with another individual to complete the sale. As the two speak, a second person suddenly emerges from a nearby gangway. That individual, later identified as Angel Dominguez, attempted to rob the seller.
During the confrontation, a relative of the seller who was sitting in a nearby vehicle got out and intervened.
Authorities say Dominguez fired two shots at the relative, who was also armed and returned fire, striking Dominguez once. The relative was transported to Loyola University Medical Center in stable condition.
Dominguez later arrived at Rush Oak Park Hospital with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead.
The 16-year-old boy who acted as the buyer was arrested and charged as a juvenile with armed robbery. Investigators concluded the incident was a pre-planned robbery orchestrated by the two teens.
