I also believe I can dishonor that gift and forfeit it: that I should be striving to do God’s will even with the Gift offered. I worry your words could lead some astray from God and would caution against them.

Sounds like you don’t believe the gate to life to be narrow nor the path straight. It is true your deeds do not grant you life. But I think we are told they can cost you life. Otherwise why would Paul so often warn us not to act as if the gift was for nothing by returning to worldly ways?
