4 days into February and most of the people I know with disabilities who receive government support are broke and we haven't paid bills or gotten groceries. Please reach out if you can assist 🙏
Being unable to afford the bare minimum needed to live causes so much stress and anxiety. Mental health support will never fix not having enough money and being forced to live in deep poverty.
People with disabilities on government support who are unable to work are still living a nightmare. Supports too low to cover basic needs and landlords denying us housing due to deep poverty income. When people lose their housing, we also lose that portion of our cheque. #CDB
@ODSPoor I'm terrified I turn 65 in October and ODSP ends then my worker has already notified me. My CPP has been approved just waiting for confirmation on the OAS and GIS. There's not much support for disabled seniors. I'm still eligible for the drug program so there's that. It's scary.
@fordnation Most of the people visiting the foodbank are there because you are an absolute joke of a premier. Disabled people like myself can't afford basic needs because you refuse to fund ODSP properly. You disgust me. Everyone except your buddies are suffering in this province.
Why are the prices of a room for rent starting to be as much as #ODSP I literally can’t even afford a run down studio apartment this not ok. I’m tired of this #doBetterCanada. #pwd 1500 for a #batchelor is not affordable
I am about $3K in debt. I doubt I will ever get half of that paid off. I try so hard to pay small bits here and there but apparently it's not good enough. I hate answering my phone anymore, bill collection agencies are so mean. #odsp
ODSP came in early and after charges and putting the new rent amount away and paying a bill and some fees, I am broke.
Disability support in Ontario and across Canada is pitiful, way below poverty, not enough to pay rent. This is why there's an increase in homelessness.
When you’re on ODSP, you’re not just trying to “find purpose,” you’re doing it while the system keeps you in survival mode. That’s a completely different reality, and it deserves to be named.
Another big letdown for people on ODSP is that the support rates don't keep pace with the REAL cost of living, so people end up struggling more than they should.
"Lack of income is the primary driver of homelessness in this province... A single person on ODSP might spend as much as 90% of their income on rent."
Basic income saves lives and money.
It's clear that current ODSP & OW rates fail to meet the basic cost of living.
The ONDP are calling for rates to be doubled immediately.

Ford creates homelessness by design.
31,000 Ontarians on social assistance are now homeless.
Up 94% under Ford.
Why?
▶️Disability (ODSP) housing allowance: $599/month
▶️OW housing allowance: $390/month
Average Bachelor apartment costs $1499/month

SOO many medical appointments that should be covered by ODSP are NOT simply because of the way the request system is structured. I see people here who can’t get to their diagnostic testing and it breaks my heart. Pls feel free to msg if you’d like help claiming travel costs.
