August 11, 2025 was three things at once: my 5 year wedding anniversary, my first day of college in my thirties, and my son's first day of preschool. I did not plan that. Enrollment picked the date, not me.

It's out

[Zac Morain @makeitmorain]

Took a little longer than a weekend 😅 but it's out.

The pitch caller from this video is now OpenSigns. $20-30 stick on my belt plays my voice saying the pitch in my catcher's earbud.

Still hit or miss at 60'6" so I'm not selling it. Code and build guide are free, links below

Update on the pitch caller. A lot of you have asked, and I'm still going to share it.

Before I release the code and build guide, I'm getting a legal answer on the patent side. I've gone through the claims and I don't believe it infringes anything.

Or you can make your own for like $20… cheap Bluetooth hardware, belt clip I took from my garage door opener, and a Bluetooth earpiece to send my recorded audio of myself calling the pitch call to (can’t hear it in video).

Question is if DIY PitchCom is game legal 😅

[Zac Morain @makeitmorain]

Genuine thanks to the patent attorney in my replies for pointing me to some good info. The extra homework was annoying, but knowing the basics of patent law is something that will pay off regardless.

More soon.

[ABCA @ABCA1945]

PitchCom is the Official Coach-to-Player Signaling Device of the ABCA.

PitchCom Starter is affordable, fast, and dependable. @PitchCom_Sports Starter provides the same technology used by MLB and NCAA teams, redesigned for the HS game.

The backstory including how my first try never even connected to the earbud: https://t.co/se4iXJywUf

Check your league's rules before using it in a game. Feel free to ask me questions! I may not have an answer right away but I will get you one. The delay here proves that. Enjoy!

[Zac Morain @makeitmorain]

Why it took a while: I went through the patents and talked with a patent attorney before putting anything out. My read is in the build post. Not legal advice though, so check for yourself before you build.

👀👀👀

[Zac Morain @makeitmorain]

@Fox_Automaton Technically, 3 buttons. Something has to turn it on 😂

[Zac Morain @makeitmorain]

@dani_avila7 Loved this one, but my real problem was walking away. I get a few lanes going, the kids need me, and the cache expires before I ever hit /compact. So I built auto-compact on top of Cache Control. Just opened the PR!

[Zac Morain @makeitmorain]

@Gnatballenberg It says I am. Probably laughing at me in its trace thoughts.

[Zac Morain @makeitmorain]

@Goblowsoup Yeah this all started because I’ve also spent my life as a catcher and love calling pitches. One of my favorite parts. Add in I’m a weird pitcher with weird tendencies, it’s best to not try and understand my thinking sometimes 😅

[Zac Morain @makeitmorain]

@USA1BULL Ah, you must have the ever elusive Command I’ve been searching for since I was 9 😂

No need to call location if you don’t know where it’s gonna go. Aim for my shot at middle-middle and let my inevitable miss do the rest of the location haha

[Zac Morain @makeitmorain]

@TripleNorm I take my rights seriously, too. Which is why I’m asking how I violated anything though.

All of this seems pretty threatening from you, when you haven’t take a moment to ask me a sincere question or even answer my genuine question.

[Zac Morain @makeitmorain]

@TripleNorm Yeah I understand that part. You never answered how you think I'm violating anything though. It's a $20 weekend project, and I already said in this thread it wouldn't be right to sell it. If there's a specific claim you think it infringes, point me to it.

[Zac Morain @makeitmorain]

@TripleNorm Would you like to explain what rights I would be potentially be violating?
