Brilliant weekend in Queenscliff, Victoria at a conference for FAPSA, the Federation of Asia-Pacific Philosophy in Schools Associations. We met with colleagues from this quarter of the globe and ran workshops on the theme of trusting children to work together in smaller groups.
So far my class this year are a bit flat. There's a few that love to contribute and will dominate, but the majority aren't really getting stuck in yet.
Today, I gave them a video from these guys @makethinkingfun and straight away nearly everyone had something to say. Brilliant!
Here’s Tom, Jason and Mark Irwin celebrating the end of a very successful fortnight promoting oracy in South Australia. Celebrations were even more fervent for those supporting (or “barracking”!) for the Brisbane Lions!
Wonderful to be in South Australia working with UniSA and the DfE to promote oracy in schools. Tom and Jason have been working with over 200 teachers over five events. A huge thank you fo Mark Irwin for organising the trip and being such a welcoming host!
One of many happy attendees at the workshops Tom and Jason have been running for Adelaide teachers. Thanks to the South Australia Dept for Education, UniSA and philanthropist and social-anxiety-related speech scholar Mark Irwin for making it happen!
Our first time at Blackheath High Juniors, delivering P4C Philosophy for Children and Oracy INSET to all Junior school staff.
We were busy working with them to create their own resources to use in their very next lessons. Thank you for a lovely day!
Just had to pay to take the bus because your train was cancelled - the bus driver said nothing had been told to him. it’ll take us five times as long - I trust we can apply for this cost to be refunded from you?
@CastleCourtClas@salisburycathsc @SAPERE_P4C Excellent (as someone who once did work experience with the traffic police I won’t spoil the answer!) And great choice of trip too (as someone who grew up in Salisbury!)
In September, Tom Bigglestone, co-founder of Debate Planet, came to Beacon Academy to host a fantastic workshop for our KS3 Debate Club!

@KemiBadenoch@renewal2030 My business was happily exporting books and other resources to the EU until your lot ruined our most important trading relationship. Now it's simply not worth the bother. Compared to the extra regulations and red tape imposed by the Tory Brexit, SMP is simple.
Thursday 11th July at 6 p.m. we're hosting this https://t.co/OWH88LaO5Q Free Webinar on Philosophy-in-Role. Pirates, explorers, astronauts - there's always a way to bring philosophy to life by placing your students inside the story. https://t.co/N8amNTbNcM
Philosophy Day at Westdene
Children across the school enjoyed a fantastic Philosophy Day, with assemblies, workshops, debates, games & lessons! In KS1, children imagined what would happen if we were continually shrunk smaller and smaller, in 'The Incredible Shrinking Machine'.
What a fantastic World Philosophy Day! Once again over 2000 pupils from across the world, from UK, to Switzerland, to Cayman Islands, to South Africa, joined us for our annual live lesson. Though perhaps not so annual anymore...watch this space! #p4c#WorldPhilosophyDay2023
