Partisans are highly segregated by workplace--the effect is similar in size to gender segregation at work.
Museums and environmental organizations have the fewest Republicans, gas pipelines and mines have the most Republicans.
Historians are most likely to be Democrats, drill operators are the most likely to be Republicans.

I taught behavioral economics for almost 15 years, first at Carnegie Mellon then UChicago. Every year I’d start the class with this example to illustrate how pure rationality fails in terms of predicting what people actually care about, particularly when it comes to social situations. We spent the rest of the class building a framework that would capture this.
It also illustrates the limits of trusting pure intelligence to get to outcomes we as humans care about. Von Neumann was one of the smartest people to ever walk the earth, but he had little understanding of what made people fulfilled or what they would be extremely upset by. He needed to be guided and sometimes overruled by “regular people”.
Every college syllabus should include these graphs.
