🚨 THE BIGGEST SCANDALS & CONTROVERSIES T.O.P HAS GONE THROUGH OVER THE YEARS

Few K-pop careers have gone through as many twists, scandals and comebacks as T.O.P’s.His career has been a rollercoaster from start to finish. 🧵👇

1. The 2017 marijuana scandal

T.O.P was caught smoking marijuana several times in 2016 and was later convicted. He received a 10-month suspended prison sentence with two years of probation.

The scandal completely changed his career and also affected his mandatory military service.

2. His hospitalization

While the drug scandal was unfolding, T.O.P was hospitalized after an apparent benzodiazepine overdose while serving as a conscripted policeman.

The incident shocked fans and became one of the darkest moments of his career.

3. Leaving BIGBANG

After years with BIGBANG, T.O.P eventually distanced himself from the group and formally left YG Entertainment.

He later made it clear that he wanted to pursue his own path, leaving many fans disappointed that the original five-member BIGBANG might never fully reunite.

4. The Squid Game 2 comeback

After years away from acting, T.O.P suddenly returned to the screen as Thanos in Squid Game 2.

But his comeback immediately caused controversy because of his past drug conviction.

Some viewers questioned why he had been given such a major role.

5. The Thanos backlash

And then came the performance itself.

Some people loved Thanos. Others absolutely hated the character and T.O.P's exaggerated performance.

His acting became one of the biggest talking points surrounding the second season.

6. The Nana relationship reveal

Now, in 2026, T.O.P is facing another wave of fan backlash after his relationship with Nana was revealed.

The two confirmed they had been dating since around June after meeting while filming his “Studio54” music video.

7. And then his fan event was cancelled

A fan-organized T.O.P exhibition scheduled for October was cancelled after registrations reportedly fell dramatically, with existing attendees also cancelling.

The timing — coming shortly after his relationship reveal — has led to plenty of speculation among fans.
