Today I participated in the panel discussion organised by @afreximbank on the sidelines of #COP29, on Financing a Green Transition in Solidarity. I discussed the direct impact climate change has on intra Africa trade.

There is a role to play for trade rules to enable environmentally sustainable trade, whether it is environmental goods or environmental services.
3 key areas need to be addressed: green manufacturing, critical minerals and renewable energy.

We have to deploy the tools that we have at our disposal to ensure that we turn this crisis into an opportunity. As we develop Africa’s supply chain capacity, we have to be mindful of environmental imperatives.

The main objective of this meeting is to consider the Annex on Prevention, Management and Resolution of Disputes under the AfCFTA Protocol on Investment. I had the honour to address the 10th Annual World FZO World Congress in Dubai, UAE, today. During my address, I highlighted the pivotal role of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in driving FDI in Africa. For many #Africans who want to travel to #Europe, there are two certainties: the #visa application will be rejected, & the application fees will not be refunded. In 2023, #Africans spent €56.3 million on visa application fees that were rejected. The #EU will increase fees. 1/2
