Amnesty International strongly condemns the arrest and detention of Blessed Mhlanga (@bbmhlanga) for merely carrying out his professional duties.
Authorities must not misuse the justice system to silence journalists and clampdown on freedom of the media. Freedom of the media is important in advancing human rights. Responsible reporting on the issues that shape people’s lives is a key building block of any free society.
Amnesty International calls for the immediate release of Blessed Mhlanga and the unconditional dropping of all charges against him. Journalism is not a crime, and media practitioners should be able to carry out their work without fear of reprisals.
@TinoChinyoka Will he stop parliament from spending taxpayers' money debating this motion in Parliament? Some of his cabinet ministers are pushing the agenda. Will he remove them?
Earlier today, I had the honour and opportunity to talk with members of the Rotary Club of Harare City about vocational service. This topic is close to my heart, as I am a firm believer in helping others.
I believe it's important to apply our professional skills and expertise to serve others. We all must be committed to using our vocations to make a positive impact in our communities!
Thank you, Rotary Club of Harare City for hosting me today.
@HeraldZimbabwe Sad that the dream has not been realised. No cause for celebration. It needed the central government to support as it collects substantial revenue, which in the past was collected and utilised by municipal authorities. Meanwhile, vision 2030 has 4 years and 363 days left.
@chischans@daddyhope Are you therefore suggesting that all churches are jokes
The Christian Church emerged from Catholicism. I respect your opinion, though.
@daddyhope More lives were lost post independence, brother killing brother. 1980 to 1987 saw thousands of lives lost, not because of colonialism but because of hate. Zimbabweans, the power is in our hands to turn things around. They can't continue to mess with us.
