Message to every ‘25 TW Bruin coming out for football - Everyone knows TW football is a team that plays w/ heart. Even opposing coaches have talked about how we play 4 full quarters of tough football. We don’t quit. It’s given us chances against ranked teams in higher classes. It’s won us playoff games against bigger/stronger teams. Relentless, resilient, confident… It’s a part of the culture in my 4 yrs @ TW, & long before. Championships are the expectation from our school & community, & we have a history that includes state championship wins in multiple decades.
In my 4 seasons we’ve come close 3/4 yrs… falling short when that ultimate goal was just a week or two away. The deeper you go in the playoffs, the tougher the opponent, & the separation level of talent, skill, scheme, & coaching becomes very thin. When you have the toughness, talent, scheme, & coaching staff capable of finishing the job, what is the biggest thing winning a regional, semi state, or championship comes down to? The answer is 3 parts. 1. The Weight Room. 2. The conditioning. 3. The mental/physical preparation done in the off-season.
Are you out working the Gibson So, Cascade, Guerin, Batesville’s of 3A? Because I promise you they have been working for months already.
It’s not glamorous. It won’t get you special recognition in an article. It’ll take time, energy, sweat, blood, & sometimes tears from you… but once October/November come, everyone can see who, on the field, has chosen to sacrifice for the team… to end the season with a win.
I’ve won state once, lost twice. I know what it takes to get there, even more to win. Almost every coach on our staff has won state, many as players & coaches. Many have won multiple rings. Many have played at a high level on Saturdays. One has a Super Bowl ring. We understand what it takes to get there… trust us.
I want that experience for each and every one of you, so badly… but ultimately it comes down to each of you… Do you want to be a really good, tough team who always has a shot to make the final four? Or do you want to finish # 1, get a medal, wear a fat blue ring with the word “Champions” on it, & have your names immortalized in the halls of Tri West forever? Don’t be just another good Tri west team… you aren’t the last…. Be a GREAT team, one who will come back in 20 yrs to be honored at half time, as your kids watch a whole town cheer for something YOU were a part of.
At Ritter, our team slogan was “Dedicate, Desire, Dominate”…. If you want to dominate… it starts with finding that desire, & dedicating yourself to chasing it by all means necessary.
It starts in the weight room. It starts in the dark…. The choice you make will reveal itself under the lights in November.
GoBruins.
