I had the opportunity to meet with the leadership team of the Paediatric Association of Tanzania (PAT), led by Dr. Theopista Masenge.

We discussed the upcoming PAT Congress on July 23, 2025, at Gran Meliá - Arusha, focusing on investing in pediatric healthcare to support human capital development and harness Tanzania's demographic potential.

Key areas of discussion included:

1. Strengthening ECSAPACH: Building human resources through the East Central and Southern Africa College of Paediatrics and Child Health.

2. Expanding Telemedicine and AI: Addressing the shortage of pediatricians via telemedicine and AI.

3. Improving Neonatal Care: Establishing more Neonatal Intensive Care Units to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates.

4. Scaling Up Innovation: Implementing innovative solutions like the Safer Births Bundle of Care and the m-mama initiative.

5. Sustained Investment in Vaccination: Reducing vaccine-preventable diseases through ongoing vaccination programs.

6. Promoting Early Childhood Development: Creating a cross-sectoral framework for nurturing care and early childhood development.
