Over 150 people have been killed and hundreds more are missing after devastating flash floods swept through the Himalayan region along the Nepal-Tibet border, officials from both countries confirmed Wednesday.

The majority of the flooding has occurred along the Trishuli and Bhotekoshi rivers in the north of the country. Nepal’s Tourism Board said that 403 people were missing as a result of the flooding, including 341 foreign nationals and 62 Nepali citizens.

#WATCH | Nepal: When asked about the intensity of the flood situation in Nepal, Maa Gambhiri, Coordinator at Isha Sacred Walks, says, "...We have certainly seen minor incidents, small things like a minor landslide that would get cleared up within 12 to 24 hours... But what we witnessed today is something we have never seen before. It is beyond imagination what happened today."

When asked about a breakdown of the current batch that was left stranded in Nepal amid the flood situation, she says, "There were more than 50 women, and the rest were men... There were people from 19 countries, including the US, Canada, Australia, Europe, the UK, and Asian countries... This was our group of foreign nationals... 53 people of Indian origin were in this group."

Terrifying floodwaters flowing down through Rasuwa Valley have now reached the Narayani River at Narayangarh. 🌊

Narayangarh (Narayangadh) is a major town in Chitwan District, central Nepal, located on the banks of the Narayani River.

The Trishuli River flows southward through Nepal. and Kali Gandaki River joins the Trishuli near Devghat, just north of Narayangadh. From that point, the combined river is generally called the Narayani River in Nepal. The Narayani then flows south across the Nepal–India border, where it is known as the Gandak River. It eventually joins the Ganges (Ganga) in India.

Looking at the sheer scale of today’s flash-flood surge in the upper Trishuli/Bhotekoshi system, the flood wave appears to have risen perhaps 40–50 metres above the normal river flow at some locations.

For context, the Trishuli’s HFL is around 8 meters, while the level at Malekhu reportedly reached 10.48 meters today. The video from the upper reaches show something far more extreme, a massive wall of water, mud and debris.

While on their way back, they were at the immigration office when the flood occurred, and the building and much of the town seems to have been flooded... There has been no official information on the whereabouts of any of the people who were at the immigration office. We are working with the authorities to see if we can get to the location and stand ready to be part of the rescue efforts, regardless of the risk involved. Of the 21 groups that are part of our Sojourn, 495 people have already returned safely. 743 people are currently in Tibet, 148 people are in Nepal, and 77 people were at the immigration center, and 3 volunteers in Timure, Nepal..."

Breaking News | #MumbaiPuneExpressway Accident, Traffic Disrupted

An accident involving a sugar-laden truck and a container carrying coils was reported on the Mumbai lane of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near kilometre 36.

One person sustained minor injuries in the accident. Traffic on the expressway was disrupted for some time following the incident. Rescue and response teams are at the spot, and further details are awaited.

AYUB’S LICENCE SUSPENDED BY FDA

Mumbai’s famous AYUB’S in Fort has had its food licence suspended after a Maharashtra FDA inspection.

Officials found houseflies, open drains, stagnant water and improper storage of eggs, among other food safety and hygiene lapses.

The licence was suspended with effect from August 23 under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
