Michael originally made this video and wrote the song about the US prison system and imperial wars, but it was censored by Hollywood. He even put this ridiculous disclaimer on it to try to get them to play it, but they wouldn't allow it. They forced him to remake it instead because they wouldn't tolerate the criticism of the US prison system or the implication that the US was racially profiling black people or mass incarcerating them... The rest of the message was about US imperialism and wars abroad. It's incisive. A brilliant critique.

Instead, they forced him to make the "USAID version" - A positive message about the US helping people in poor countries. Michael saw the truth. They just wouldn't let him express it. Even the most popular artist in the world didn't have the power in the US to tell the truth he saw to the American people. It was his compassion for people, including the people of Palestine, that ultimately made him a target 💔
