I never thought I would change my name when I got married— I was the first (medical) Dr. Newton in my family and I’m very proud of that. But, when presented with the opportunity to say “Hi, I’m Dr. Sleeper and I’ll be your anesthesiologist,” I just couldn’t pass it up!
The most powerful tool of oppression is keeping you so busy with the daily struggle that you don’t have the time to connect all the dots and become truly enraged.
I'm being dismissed from my Tenure Track position at Emporia State University in May. The university used a process approved by KBOR that bypassed faculty shared governance to eliminate numerous tenured, TT, and non-TT faculty.
I tried something new in my 100-level classes. First, the 4 problems I was trying to solve:
1. Students do not always know that they need to take notes in class. Even if they do, they don't know how to do so effectively.
2. We get to midterms and they don't have notes to study 🧵
@hbriley This isn’t the ultimate solution, but you can also encourage students to use read back functions on their devices. There are paid programs, but on Apple devices I use accessibility functions to enable read back and you can change the voice and speed!
