One has to acknowledge the pace at which Pakistan Hockey Federation is moving under Mohyuddin Wani.

From introducing a professional coaching setup for the senior men's team, to forming age group women's teams, planning a hockey league and, importantly, arranging international matches for men, women and junior teams, there is visible movement on multiple fronts.

We expected a similar sense of urgency from Pakistan Football Federation. Unfortunately, that momentum has been missing.

ICC Appeals Panel has rescinded the demerit point imposed on Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, following its "Unsatisfactory" pitch rating for the Pakistan vs Australia ODI on June 4.

The panel said the pitch did not demonstrate excessive unevenness or spin. Gaddafi Stadium now carries zero demerit points.

Bob Veldhof once vowed he would "never go back to Pakistan." Now, the Dutchman is Pakistan’s head coach at the World Cup, after being convinced that the country’s hockey transformation is finally different.

Veldhof says new PHF leadership, government backing, fixed budgets, timely player payments, upgraded infrastructure and major investment in technology have changed his mind.

"The goal is clear: to bring Pakistan back to where it belongs."
