You are full of shit, Eric. The 65 billion barrels amount to an Economic Tar Baby. These heavy oil reserves have an all-in economic costs of about $60 per barrel to produce, but sell at a 15% discount to the WTI global marker price due to exceedingly low gravity and high sulfur. The global marker price has averaged $71 per barrel during the last 50 years in constant 2026 dollars, meaning that after the 15% discount for Venezuelan junk crude oil, the net present value of the reserves Trumpy claims to have stolen from the Venezuelan people, if produced over the next 50 years would be close to ZERO (about 0.0003% of US GDP per year).

Petro-socialism didn't work in Venezuela in part because most of its ultra low gravity, high sulfur tar-oil has negligible net value at prevailing world prices. It's bankrupt petroleum industry makes Mises point about the impossibility of economic calculation in a socialist economy clear as it gets. But then again, the Donald never heard of Mises or Hayek, nor does he actually have a clue about the free market. He's just a Cesarean power-grabber dressed up as a right-wing socialist.

New reporting from ProPublica just exposed that Pete Hegseth polled top military commanders on cutting the program that protects civilians from military strikes.

Every single one wanted to keep the program, but Hegseth gutted it anyway for being too “woke.”

What followed was a U.S. strike in Yemen that a Pentagon review confirmed killed 153 civilians.

On day one of Trump’s unauthorized war in Iran, another strike hit an Iranian primary school and killed up to 168 people. Central Command itself warned that these cuts would mean “increased risk of target misidentification,” but Hegseth ignored them. 

These are the consequences of having the greatest military in the world in the hands of the most incompetent SecDef in American history.

While we’re on the topic of asylum abuse, let me share another gem with you. The @StateDept recently completed a comprehensive review of DIPLOMATIC and OFFICIAL visas issued to representatives of foreign governments to enter the US over the 5-year period from 2019 through 2023. To be clear, these are visas that allowed their holders to enter our country on diplomatic or official business ON BEHALF OF THEIR HOME COUNTRY’S GOVERNMENT (in technical terms, “A” and “G” visas). Well, it turns out that many of THESE people sought asylum in our country. Let that sink in: people who were allowed to enter our country on behalf of a foreign government claimed that they must be allowed to stay because they faced persecution BY THAT VERY GOVERNMENT.
The first chart below shows the numbers from the 10 most egregious countries (I’ve removed the countries’ names because, as you might expect, we’re taking this up through diplomatic channels.) Yes, you read that right: there’s one country from which 420 persons who entered on diplomatic or official visas during this period sought asylum (classified as an “I-589 event”), and 2 other countries had over 200. The next chart tracks the same phenomenon in percentage terms: there’s one country from which 17.25% of all persons who entered on diplomatic or official visas sought asylum, and two other countries had over 10%.
To say that these charts highlight systemic abuse of our asylum system would be an understatement. But no longer. Under @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @SecRubio, we’ve instructed our Embassies abroad (especially in the most egregious countries) to scrutinize these visa applications very carefully, and those involved will be held accountable.

Today’s settlement is a major victory for New Jersey families. Big Tech is finally being held accountable for the harm it is causing, especially to our children’s mental health and safety.
