This is Somali referee Omar Artan, and last night he made history. These two pictures show him in two different worlds: judging a local, non-official match in a Somali village, and refereeing the UEFA Super Cup final in Salzburg.

UEFA gave him the stage he deserves, and he made history as the first non-European referee to officiate the Super Cup. As a Somali, and as Africans, we are proud of him. He showed the world the quality of Somali talent — and the only thing left to wish for is seeing Omar Artan referee a World Cup final one day.
