‘I will be a saint’ means that I will despoil myself of all that is not God; I will strip my heart of all created things; I will live in poverty and detachment; I will renounce my will, my inclinations, my whims and fancies, and make myself a willing slave to the will of God.
Our progress in holiness depends on God and ourselves – on God’s grace and on our will to be holy. We must have a real living determination to reach holiness.
The most highly educated society in Western Europe elected Hitler and the highest density of Universities per acre and per person is to be found in California. Need I say more?
The Abortion controversy is the most vital and relevant of all. For we can survive energy crises, inflation, wars, revolutions and insurrections..but if we transgress against the very basis of our mortal existence...then we shall surely and deservedly perish from the earth.
Supposing you eliminated suffering, what a dreadful place the world would be! The world would be the most ghastly place because everything that corrects the tendency of this unspeakable little creature, man, to feel over-important and over-pleased with himself would disappear.
Thus our generation, needing a Savior more, perhaps, than any that has ever existed, would be too humane to allow one to be born; too enlightened to permit the Light of the World to shine in a darkness that grows ever more oppressive.
Under existing conditions it is extremely improbable that Jesus would have been permitted to be born at all. Mary’s pregnancy, in poor circumstances, and with the father unknown, would have been an obvious case for an abortion.

If God is dead, somebody is going to have to take his place. It will be megalomania or erotomania, the drive for power or the drive for pleasure, the clenched fist or the phallus, Hitler or Hugh Hefner.
The logical sequel to the destruction of what are called “unwanted children” will be the elimination of what will be called “unwanted lives” — a legislative measure which so far in all human history only the Nazi Government has ventured to enact.
Sex has become the religion of the most civilized portions of earth. The orgasm has replaced the Cross as the focus of longing and the image of fulfillment; the old pagan admonition Do What Thou Wilt, has superseded the Pauline teaching, Ye Cannot Do the Things that Ye Would Do.
The Abortion controversy is the most vital and relevant of all. For we can survive energy crises, inflation, wars, revolutions and insurrections..but if we transgress against the very basis of our mortal existence...then we shall surely and deservedly perish from the earth.
