Yesterday, we had a tour of all the paintings done this year - a record of six murals in total. Thank you to all the artists, your work lightens up our town.
#Malonny artists presentations took place in the oldest sugar factory in Lithuania. Today we meet for an international architects and urbanistics specialists forum at Mercure hotel. See you there at 6PM!
"Bus stop" by Ray Bartkus (2017, 4th #Malonny) A now abolished mural called "Ghost" serves as an accent of this mural. It also features Malonny volunteers, Bob Dylan, and Leonard Cohen, who are both of Lithuanian descent and related to Suvalkija.
"Cat Wall" by Meg Regelous (2017, 4th #Malonny). Meg’s work can be characterized by magnifying small and individual details. She completely changed her idea after seeing Marijampolė and hearing the story about the square of cats. Therefore, she drew even more cats and birds.
"The Arctic" by Ieva Martinaitytė-Mediodia (2017, 4th #Malonny). The artist is of lithuanian descent, currently living in NYC. The mural depicts the melting of glaciers, changes of the earth due to human influence. The “android” in the middle symbolizes humans.
"St. George and the King of Ethopia" by Eli Elysee (2016, 3rd #Malonny). St. George is recognizable in Marijampolė, it is a metaphor of good winning over evil, common in Lithuania, Ethiopia, and Jamaica. The colors of the Lithuanian and Ethiopian flags also look very similar!
"Submarine" by Ray Bartkus (2016, 3rd #Malonny). According to the artist himself, he immediately pictured a submarine in place of the bridge column, and thought "why can't Marijampolė have its own submarine?" Seems reasonable! #StreetArt#MuralArt#Submarine#Marijampolė
"Emotional landscape" by Rachel Price Bacon (2016, 3rd #Malonny). This #mural depicts a crumpled piece of paper that's been straightened - nevertheless, it's not the same anymore. However, misfortunes are only new possibilities that are much more interesting than what was planned
"Flowing life" by Ray Bartkus (2015, 2nd #Malonny symposium). The mural is painted upside down to reflect the right side up on the water. Bartkus expects that each time people see it they will find something new. The mural is currently under restoration to fix water damage.
"Flying-by birds" by Eli Elysee done in 2015 during the 2nd #Malonny. When the sun hits the tree in front of the brick fence just right, the birds appear to be hanging on its branches. This is the most minimalistic work done during any of Malonny symposiums, yet so beautiful!
@designboom Beautiful work! Kind of reminds us of big, colorful, and thought provoking murals painted during an annual arts symposium #Malonny in a small town of Marijampolė, Lithuania. Check out our twitter!

A sculpture, named "Gardens", by Lithuanian-American artist Ray Bartkus was unveiled at #Washington Union Station on Wednesday, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Restoration of the State of @Lithuania.
"Live for now, die for later" by Vandana Jain, done in 2015 during the 2nd #Malonny. You might notice a few well known corporational logos, and two palms holding a drop of water, both of which make up a contrast of life and death. #StreetArt
"Shadows on the Wall of the iCave" by M. K. Estrabrook, done in 2015 during #Malonny. The purpose of this drawing is to draw society’s attention to the frightening tendency of people seeing the world through the screens of their devices only . Colorful, yet thought provoking.
