Earlier today I held a productive bilateral meeting in Cairo with H.E. Dr Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Our discussions focused on strengthening the longstanding ties between Malta and Egypt and deepening cooperation in areas of interest.

Malta values Egypt’s important role in facilitating, promoting and advancing the peace agreement signed in Sharm El-Sheikh.

Amb. Pace hosted his last reception as Ambassador of #Malta to #Egypt on the occassion of Malta's 61st #independence anniversary. He is grateful for Egyptians' hospitality in his almost 4 years in #Cairo and hopes that our paths will cross again. @DeputyPMIanBorg

Malta urges the Israeli Government to reconsider its announced plan to intensify operations in Gaza.

Hamas must disarm and play no part in Gaza’s future, but further escalation by Israel is wrong.

It will worsen the humanitarian crisis and the cruel conditions in which hostages are being held.

A ceasefire is needed now.

Alarmed to learn that @UNOPS premises in Deir al Balah have been struck in Palestine for the second time this year. UNOPS have become key partners for Malta in recent weeks as we have worked to deliver essential humanitarian aid to the population of Gaza.

The safety of @UN personnel as they carry out lifesaving humanitarian operations should never be in question. In the midst of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, it is imperative for safe and full humanitarian access to be restored.

I strongly condemn the tragic strike on Gaza’s Holy Family Church, which killed three civilians and injured many, including Fr Romanelli. Our prayers are with the grieving families and all affected.

Malta reaffirms the urgent need to respect and protect religious sites and civilians. We renew our call for an immediate ceasefire and sustained humanitarian access in Gaza.

Malta is deeply concerned by the continued loss of life of Palestinian civilians, including children, in Gaza. We mourn this loss of life. This violence must stop and all international efforts should be focused on agreeing to a ceasefire, ensuring the delivery of all the humanitarian aid that is required and the immediate release of all abductees.

The Embassy thanks H.E. Mons. Claudio Lurati, Apostolic Vicar of #Alexandria, for the warm welcome at the Cathedral of our Lady of Heliopolis and for the invaluable project he undertook to digitise all the archives of the Latin churches of Egypt.

At St. Joseph's church in Downtown, #Cairo, Amb. Pace congratulated Fr. Filippo Farag on his recent appointment as Provincial Minister, and toured the archives as well as the Egyptian Catholic Centre of Cinema.

Amb. Pace visited Our Lady of Assumption church in #Muski, hosting one of the most extensive archives of the Holy Land in the #MiddleEast. The church contains a commemorative plaque to Queen Victoria by the #Maltese community of #Cairo. Thanks to Fr. William Faltas for the tour.

#Nostalgia: Our Lady of Mount Carmel church once served the #Maltese community residing in the #Bulaq suburb of #Cairo. Thanks to Fr. Farid Kamal for the guided tour and for taking care of the invaluable archives in this historic place.

A landmark agreement for global maritime governance.

Very glad to have signed a Host Country Agreement with @UNODC, to establish a UNODC office in Valletta, co-located within the new Global Maritime Sanctions Monitoring Centre, a Malta-based global initiative with Antigua & Barbuda and other partners, to strengthen UN sanctions implementation and combat maritime crime.

Reaffirming Malta as a hub for international maritime cooperation - promoting responsible flagging practices, enhancing global enforcement architecture, and addressing long-standing gaps in maritime governance.

Malta supports the EU efforts towards Palestinian State building and welcomes the proactive EU engagement in the Peace Process at this critical juncture.

In the margins of today’s EU-Palestine High Level Dialogue, I held talks with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, to reaffirm Malta’s longstanding support to the Two-State Solution and @MaltaGov’s ongoing efforts to support the Palestinian people; with humanitarian aid, medical assistance, scholarships and other initiatives.

#Malta condemns the resumption of attacks on Gaza and calls for Israel to exercise restraint. We continue to underscore the importance of safeguarding the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and urge Hamas to honour their commitments on the release of hostages, while stressing the need for all parties to ensure the protection of civilians and humanitarian aid workers, while facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid.
