I remember when my friend bought his first car. The first thing he said was that we had to go to Braamfontein. He wanted to drive through every street and route he had walked while studying at Wits and struggling to earn that degree. We did exactly that, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen him happier.
“Women deal with periods, pregnancy, and menopause.”
Men deal with shorter life expectancy, the most dangerous jobs, war, higher suicide rates, and the constant expectation to provide and protect. Men don’t complain because they’re built to carry heavier loads.
But go ahead and tell us how hard your period is. The world runs on male sacrifice, not female discomfort.
Men’s struggles don’t get parades; they get expectations.
If we date, don’t stop being you. Keep having fun, keep seeing your friends, keep chasing your goals, and keep enjoying your life. A relationship should add to your life, not take away from it. Just make sure you save time for us too.
