ExMuslim feminist here! Again from the top because some of you have selective hearing. Women are coerced, harassed, brainwashed, assaulted, beaten, imprisoned, lashed and murdered into hijab. Hijab is NOT and will never be a choice. If you CHOOSE hijab, then you are complicit in our oppression and dehumanization. Telling the world “we choose to wear our oppression” doesn’t make it okay. Feminism isn’t about normalizing your choice dehumanization and oppression. Feminism is about liberating women from all forms of oppressions of oppression and hijab is one. So is child marriage. So is FGM. So is polygyny. So is gender apartheid. Feminism is about standing for liberation of all women not just the ones who understand their own chains and it definitely isn’t about condoning those chains because you picked them and painted them pink.
