Last look I had of her healthy.I 📞’d 1-2x wk thru lockdown/told she’s fine.5 wks later she’s 71lbs/palliative. 1 yr later,6 mnts after her death I obtain FOI. CA’s reported serious concerns but ALmanager never assessed,no medical intervention,no Rx’s,didn’t inform Dr. Yet legal?
Today I returned to my mother’s nursing home and spoke with a CNA whose care runs deeper than any checklist.
She carries embodied knowledge.
She knows the residents—
their rhythms,
their changes,
their stories.
This is frontline intelligence.
If the home lost her, it would lose far more than a body to fill a shift.
They call her “old school.”
What she is, is a school that teaches what no training manual can.
She hears in a resident’s voice what kind of day they’re having.
She feels loneliness moving down the hallway.
She notices when a favorite food sits untouched.
Long-term care loses something immeasurable when it fails to recognize this knowledge as the vital resource it is.
As always, the floor knows first.

@RonanFarrow In 2020 ( Covid) the Canadian Military was deployed to stabilize elderly care homes in Canada, because they had been abandoned by corporate management. What was discovered was disgustingly heartbreaking. The military released a scathing report but little media coverage since💔
@DrVivianS Originally, I was told by facility management that there was no charting for the 5 wks she was in isolation so they didn’t know what happened to mom. The ALR told me the same but their 1st investigation had errors. I applied for FOIs & I now have the 5 wks of “missing” charts🤔
@DrVivianS@NatKusendova@ONlongtermcare In 2023 BCCNM ( nursing) investigation found out more & their investigator said the ALRs invest./was “downright hokey”!
I now have a 2nd file with the Ombudsperson of B.C. for the same unresolved issue.
It’s been very debilitating & I still don’t know why this happened to Mom💔
@DrVivianS@NatKusendova@ONlongtermcare (1/2) 6 yrs for Mom’s Assisted Living complaint…Assisted Living Registrar investigated & found it unsubstantiated until I applied for FOIs & found they missed a lot. ALR told the Ombudsperson they’d redo but only substantiated my complaint & ignored the FOIs & closed the file..
@TJProvincial Example. I work 12hr nights, w/20 dementia pts. From 11pm-7am I work alone, no meal break, dependant on LPN if I need help with pts. LPN is 1st responder for all 100+ pts so if they’re called, I don’t get the help, neither do residents. Care is sacrificed but no one seems to care💔
@DrVivianS@sgsma4@TJProvincial@MarkJCarney Staffing levels are worse than ever. Care aides doing housekeeping & dietary & laundry duties but that’s considered direct patient care b/c care aides are doing it?
2 person ceiling lifts/turns are done with only 1 person b/c floats aren’t “in the budget”
Happening everywhere💔
@DrVivianS@DarPeterson92 I agree. Been with my current employer for over a year now. One of the larger facilities in the area (BC)
I work 12 hr nights. I’ve not seen any type of fire drill or training. We’ve had licensing visit various times, is this not even looked at?
Seniors’ care is so ignored💔
We can't handle every complaint: Some organizations in BC aren't ones we oversee.
How do you know which is which and where to go for help? One way is by using our online Complaint Checker.

Did you know? When we talk about fairness, we’re usually talking about “administrative fairness" - the standard of conduct expected from public organizations when delivering programs and services.
@edgarantonioloz@TSN_Sports Every minute, somewhere in the world a Canadian is born... it’s just a matter of time before they find their way home to Canada.💕💕
So glad you found your way home❤️🇨🇦

Ombuds-what? It's a difficult word to say and can also be a tough concept to understand.
The BC Ombudsperson’s role is to make sure public organizations treat people fairly and follow the rules. Learn more about us by visiting our website: https://t.co/RYpi6lQnFP
@Wes_Macc@Axaxia88 It did happen. In Prince George, British Columbia. Literally everyone in Canada is amazed that mama moose didn’t attack. Somehow she knew though.❤️
