Ugandans often move by narratives instead of strategy, and at times this has slowed our progress as a nation.
Some people once said we should not wait for Karamoja to develop. In my view, that mindset lacks vision and appreciation of what true national growth means.
If we truly understood the power of culture, tourism, and the natural beauty of Karamoja, we would see it as one of Uganda’s greatest untapped opportunities.
I have benchmarked the Maasai people and how their culture has been positioned globally especially in destinations like Maasai Mara. Their identity has become a tourism brand, contributing significantly to Kenya’s economy.
Karamoja has the same potential its culture, landscapes, traditions, and resilience can become a powerful tourism and investment driver. If we market it well and ensure local communities are properly sensitized and empowered, the economic impact could be transformative for Uganda.
The question is not whether Karamoja can develop. The real question is whether we are bold enough to position it correctly.

Yesterday evening, we had the honor of meeting with Florence Nambozo Wamala (@FN_Wamala) , State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, in the company of @wekesa_amos , @WasswaEmma_ , and the current Miss Tourism Uganda, Kezia Natasha Nachap (@NachapKeziaCin ).
We sincerely appreciate the Minister’s time, openness, and strategic leadership in guiding conversations around repositioning Karamoja as a leading destination for tourism and investment. The engagement was insightful and forward-looking, focusing on strengthening infrastructure, promoting community-based tourism, empowering local communities, and shaping a positive, opportunity-driven narrative for the region.
Karamoja holds immense potential from its rich cultural heritage and unique landscapes to its resilient and vibrant communities. With strong collaboration between government, private sector players, and tourism ambassadors like Miss Tourism Uganda, we believe the region can confidently transition from being viewed through the lens of vulnerability to being recognized as Uganda’s next frontier for sustainable growth and development.
We look forward to building on this momentum and turning these discussions into tangible action for the transformation of Karamoja.
An evening well spent with Spice Diana (@SpiceDianaUg) , @WasswaEmma_ and @BismacAmumpaire (Team Leader) as we dived into deeper conversations about the Uganda Wildlife Marathon.
What stood out the most is how deeply informed Spice is about tourism. Beyond the music and stage performances, she understands the value of destination branding, conservation, and how events like the marathon can position Uganda on the global map. Her insights on how entertainment and tourism can work hand in hand were thoughtful and inspiring.
Many people see the celebrity, but few see the visionary mind behind it. Spice appreciates that wildlife, culture, and sports tourism are powerful tools for economic growth. She spoke passionately about how such initiatives can create opportunities for communities and promote Uganda’s beauty to the world.
It was also refreshing to learn that she is a great coffee farmer. That connection between agriculture and tourism is powerful from farm to cup, coffee tells Uganda’s story. When influential voices invest in sectors like coffee and actively engage in tourism conversations, it shows commitment beyond the spotlight.
If creatives continue to engage in meaningful conversations like these, the future of Uganda’s tourism industry is very bright.
I have a testimony
I thought Quad Biking was all not until @WasswaEmma_ kept mentioning Go Karts not until I saw us going to a fully set field for things I see on TV
I didn’t know how to operate them no had I ever set an eye on this game any where
@wekesa_amos’s son is a champion he grabbed the first one Mad man got another and mine too then I was directed on how to operate the Kart
Off we set off , I can’t tell the experience you just need to pay a visit at @kaynelafarmsltd
Uganda has many talented content creators. However, more and more YouTubers are shifting to Kenya because that’s where they feel the support and payment opportunities are better.
If our government could open doors and create access points for creators, and at the same time provide some funding or partnerships, it would change a lot. Many creators end up producing abusive or controversial content simply because it is what currently brings in money and attention.
Imagine if creators were supported to consistently showcase Uganda in a positive way our tourism sites, culture, businesses, and opportunities. The country would benefit from greater visibility and a stronger national image.
It becomes difficult for leaders to trust the industry when the most visible examples of “content creators” are those known mainly for drama or insults like chicken chicken, Lumbuye , full figure and many more . Yet there are many more committed to professional, constructive, and brand-safe storytelling.
We are ready to market Uganda. We just need support, recognition, and collaboration.

It all starts with the desire to achieve. Pray about it, then hustle day and night like a school dropout.
You left home to win, never return without a victory.
This evening we held a series of private meetings with several high-profile personalities, discussing exciting new tourism products currently in the pipeline. Big things are coming.
Later, we had the pleasure of meeting Mr. @kasiryeadamkad , a strong supporter of our community initiatives and projects. Many know him from TikTok and television, where he shares insightful analytics, and lately he has been showing growing interest in tourism conversations as well.
During our meeting, he generously offered us one of his branded outfits ,a design you may have seen musician @AlienSkinUg rocking.
It was also great to learn about the inspiration he draws from @wekesa_amos , with whom he regularly connects for impactful discussions.
We appreciate the support and collaboration as we continue pushing destination marketing forward.

Topic: Mbarara
Personality: Influencers
However much Kampala has become highly competitive with influencers from all over the country running there in search of a “better life” this shift has created even bigger gaps and opportunities in rural cities.
During my recent visit to Mbarara, I was hosted at Omusheshe Echo Park, just a few kilometers from the city. The owner has invested millions to create a unique destination sitting on one of the second-highest peaks around Mbarara city. The view, the calm, the vision this is serious investment.
With the kind of money and vision wealthy investors are putting into places like this, the opportunity for influencers is massive. In rural cities, you actually earn more and spend less lower costs, less pressure, and higher impact.
What Mbarara truly needs is an organized, intentional team of influencers to market the region as one destination:
•A hub for tourism
•A center of rich culture
•And a growing business city
The opportunity is there. The investments are there. It’s time the influence followed.

Topic: Who Should We Blame? – The River Nile
Among the many tourism destinations and attractions Uganda is blessed with, the River Nile stands out as one of the most powerful natural gifts our country has.
Sadly, many of us do not take the Nile seriously enough. Yet this river has the capacity to significantly transform our economy if well developed and properly managed.
I was genuinely surprised when I learned how much Egypt earns from the River Nile compared to what Uganda earns from the Source of the Nile. This comparison raises serious questions. How does a country downstream benefit so greatly, while the country where the Nile begins gains so little?
In fact, visiting the Source of the Nile today can leave one feeling disappointed, almost as if the money spent was wasted. This should never be the case for such a globally significant attraction.
The reality is that infrastructure around the Nile, especially in Jinja, is still very poor. This brings us to an uncomfortable question: who should we blame?
Is it the Uganda Tourism Board @TourismBoardUg , or is it the @GovUganda as a whole?
Reports indicate that Egypt earns approximately UGX 11.5 trillion annually from Nile-related tourism and economic activities, while Uganda earns only about UGX 1.6 billion from the Source of the Nile. This imbalance simply does not add up.
Uganda has the origin, the story, the history, and the natural beauty but lacks serious investment, innovation, and long-term planning.
It is time to reawaken our ministers and leaders. Government must sit down, rethink priorities, and invest more in infrastructure, product development, and destination experience around the Nile. With the right vision, the River Nile could become one of Uganda’s strongest economic pillars.
The Nile is not just a river it is an opportunity. We must stop wasting it.
