Last week, Jack Dorsey announced his offline messaging app Bitchat.
The co-founder of Twitter launched the app as a decentralized messaging tool that operates without internet or cellular service. Utilizing Bluetooth Low Energy mesh networks, Bitchat enables peer-to-peer communication, letting users send encrypted messages without relying on centralized servers, phone numbers, or emails. The app was vibe-coded by Dorsey, and is currently in beta testing on iOS, with an Android version in development too.
Privacy and security are at the core of Bitchat’s design, messages are not stored on any servers and disappear after the app is closed. They are also relayed device-to-device, extending beyond the 30-meter Bluetooth range. To register, there is no need for phone numbers or accounts, making the app highly anonymous.
The group messaging feature, called “rooms” allows users to create specific channels, with optional password protection. The app supports a store-and-forward mechanism, meaning that if a recipient is offline, messages are temporarily saved and delivered once they reconnect.
Bitchat is in its early stages, with a beta version that reached its 10,000 user limit on TestFlight within a day. The app is also open source, with its code publicly available for review and contribution.
Bitchat aligns with Jack Dorsey’s broader vision of decentralizing digital communication and reducing large tech companies’ dominance. Following in the footsteps of his previous projects like Bluesky and Damus, Bitchat offers a future with private and secure communication. His goal isn’t to replace mainstream apps, but to provide an alternative.

Mahatma Gandhi: "Bapak Perdamaian" yang Ternyata Rasis, Predator Seksual, dan Pengkhianat Bangsanya Sendiri
1947, India.
